Hi

I've got an Oppo BDP80 on it's way for "my" room and want a cheaper one for the lounge.
Really I want something that starts quickly (as I hear BD players are generally quite shocking) and multi region for DVD, plays DivX and is Profile 2.0.

On this, I was thinking that a Samsung BDP1600 might fit the bill as allegedly it works quite fast, there's a hack for multi region DVD action, and it's available for about £110.

I know there was a LIMIT one at HMV for £40 but I missed out and refuse to pay 80 quid for something that was £40 a while ago. Also I hear the build quality is a little lacking.

thanks
Dave

I have the BD 1600.
For BD I'm very happy (though it must be noted, I have no other reference point).
For SD, there is the annoying layer pause, something I thought was long gone.

WOW that wouldn't have occurred to me. Interesting - thanks for that input. Maybe I should look elsewhere then!

Well, layer pauses have never ever bothered me. For years I had a Toshiba 2109, and it was sorta a novelty to see the layer change (I know :dork: ). Now I have a Sony blu and there is still a layer change - but in my opinion, so what. It's about one second in the entire movie.

Course, some things bother some people, and if layer changes really bother you, then that's all legit and fair enough, I just personally don't get why there's such a fuss.

some movies I don't mind - where they calculate it in, and you barely notice, but some where its a busy scene or panning or something and it stands out as being annoying. IMO of course ;)

The current firmware update has fixed the layer pause.:D
