View Full Version : Help!!! with Vodafone cantract. Phones 4 You
(brief summary)
My daughter purchased as i-phone from Phones 4 You on a vodafone contract for 2 years.
Unfortunately she does not have good enough signal at home or around the area. Frequent missed calls, messages and calls breaking up.
She took phone back to P4Y who promptly rejected a claim for refund.
Vodafone are refusing to help because they say it is not in their power to cancel a contract that was signed with a different company.
The contract is with Vodafone.
At one point they even sugested to cancel direct debit, which she is terrified to not change her credit rating.
Anyone with experience on this?

Vodafone are the provider and not the seller so it isn't necessary their responsibility although you can labour on the point that they have no decent level of coverage in that area so they ought to take ownership (good luck with that). I've always found their coverage ropey so wouldn't use them personally. If the phone is working then you may be stuck with it, unless you can send it back under the distance selling regs or cool-off period (if still in it).
There are a few Vodafone reps who frequent these forums so maybe they can help.

Thanks Splobber.
hope i get some tips / info. it is upsetting her and me.
£45 a month for something you can't use is a serious problem.
The coverage map on the website shows no problem, yesterday one of the managers said there may be a problem in the area.
How was long between receiving the iPhone and contacting P4Y/Vodafone?
For home you could pay Voda £50 for "sure signal" although that doesn't help out and about.
Maybe there is a problem - permanent or temporary? If temp you can get his details and use that as a reference if it doesn't improve after the stated time?
Permanent can be used as grounds to push for a refusal?
I am finding I have somewhat patchy signal in my house so was given a tip at home to use GSM not 3G [wifi for data] to improve reception but sorry again I know that doesn't help you out and about unless she can live with mainly GSM except when she needs to use a data service [not something I would want to do with a flashy iphone on £45pm either!]
I think it was 3 days when she took back to P4Y then contacted vodafone next day.
They did eventually offer the box for home but it is not only the house where she has the problem.
Incidentaly the box started at £100, then £50, then free. :suspect:
This does also mean that you must have broadband and so are tied to 2 services. That is no longer a "mobile" phone but a "sometimes mobile" phone.
I think if it was only 3 days then you should push hard to get a solution - maybe consider asking them to switch her onto an O2 cotract instead or something?

Remember also to use the Vodafone sure signal boxes you need a 3G handset, also remember 3G decreases your battery life by quite a lot.
On a secondary note, 3G handsets when 3G is switched on will constantly search for a 3G signal, if they find one then they will latch onto it even over a high GSM signal.
a manager at vodafone "supposedely" spoke with someone at P4Y who was supposed to leave instructions to cancel.
As sson as daughter phoned shop she was told no notes were there. This was Saturday so she goes back Monday.
Fingers crossed they void the contract, otherwise may just cancel DD and send a letter to all parties complaining.
When all that is sorted she might try a new contract but to be honest, she is very scared about the whole thing.
might be an idea to take her phone and call the voda manager there
I am working the next couple of days. She is going to P4Y again tomorrow and try to sort it there.
