View Full Version : Just Visiting
Much to my surprise this re-make of Les Visiteurs is actually a decent effort. It's not as good as the original, and has made a few minor plot changes (and one major one right at the end) along with its relocation to the UK & US instead of France, but it's kept the keen sense of humour of the original. I'm sure this is down to Gaumont staying in charge and the two lead actors being the same as in the original.
If you fancy a damn good laugh, go see it. It's infinitely better done than other recent remakes (e.g. The Assassin/Nikita).
I thought it was painful - one of those films that makes Rat Race look like a comedy classic. I didn't see the original.
Incidentally, its the only time I've ever seen a film in a 'squashed' presentation, like watching an enhanced disc on 4:3 mode. It looked to be around 1.85:1 but was stretched and missing the top and bottom of the picture (the credits were 80% hidden). I couldn't muster the energy to get up and complain during the film, as I knew I'd just keep on going...

I actually enjoyed it too. IMO, not nearly as bad as some people claimed.
Not exactly Oscar-winning stuff or an absolute must-see, but not bad for 90 minutes of mindless entertainment.
Have to agree with McD here - this was painful viewing. I was glad when it was over :)
McD,Pwray, have you seen the original? If so, what did you think?
I saw it for the first time on Channel 4 a few weeks back and I thought it was pretty good. Simple but amusing
