Hello, i have a YELO800 dvd player and i was just wondering whether i need an ntsc compatible tv to play region 1 discs??? I don't know whether my tv is compatible with ntsc. Can the player convert the signal to pal automatically??
Also do i need a decoder to have dolby surround or can the player decode the signals and play through my signals. If i plug my speakers into the 5 phono sockets round the back of the player will it work.
Thanks

Hi
As you know I have the same. Ok. I play r1 discs no problem. To check what settings you have do the following. Turn on player with no disc loaded, push set up button. It should locate on the 'general setup' panel, if not use the arrow keys. Press play which will get you into the menu. The 2nd sub menu is for 'TV type' select by pushing arrow key down once. To your right is a sub menu with the following settings. Multi, NTSC & Pal. I have mine set on Pal (the button is depressed confirmed by a darker blue. I have had no problems with it on Pal so far and whilst it is a nicam set it is over 6 years old.
As for surround sound the player has an onboard decoder and this processes the sound and splits it into the five surround channels plus the sub (5.1). You will need a surround sound Amp and speakers, just plugging in speakers will not work. Dabs.com do the Videologic LC, £104, which is the digitheatre without the decoder, a powered sub with internal amp and the five surround sound speakers. Link the player to the amp using the decoder outs on the player and away you go. Alternatively you can get a 5.1 complete system including a decoder/amp/sub & speakers for around £300. Ensure it has an optical connection! I am getting the Yamaha VS-10. If you chose to go the amp only with speaker route you can adjust the settings for speakers etc in the menus explained more deeply on page 29 on in the Yelo manual supplied with the player. As I do not yet have a 5.1 system I can't say if the decoder in the player is all you'll need or if it's better to get an intergrated system, I am simply chosing to go the Yamaha route as it is an optical link to the player and I do not have to mess around with a bundle of cables from the player to the amp. There are various options for 5.1 besides the Yamaha check out upgrade heaven (link is a sticky at the top of the bargain forum where deals are offered to forum members).
Sorry if I have baffled you further:)
Good Luck

I have just opted for the same setup, perhaps you can help decypher what settings are req to get something out of the Centre and rear speakers. I worked out for myself to switch off the downmix to make the player spit the data out of the optical port but I'm a bit lost when they start talking about "OP Mode" and "dual Mono" modes. I've spent all afternoon trying what I thought were all the permutation but I've obviously missed one out.
