View Full Version : Mobile Phone theft/accidental damage protection - yay or nay?
first month free from Mobiles.co.uk (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=158) thereafter it is £7.99pm
How many take out this cover and if not why not - what are the alternatives?
It depends on a number of factors really.
Is the phone gonna cost a shedload to replace should something go wrong? Are you generally a careful person with your phone? ie are you liable to drop it?
Something like an iPhone warrants insurance imo as it will cost a minimum of £400 to replace with a new one.
Thanks. Fair questions all.
I would/am careful with my phone[s] and never broken one but then again have never had a £500 one with an all-glass screen before.
Will check home insurance for accidental damage as well
As the phone woulc cost more than 12month price of insurance I think I might consider it is not covered in home insurance

...I was going to say check your home insurance, I make a point of paying that little bit extra on my home insurance to avoid these types of insurance policies, I'm currently with CIS (Co-Op) and have my gadgets covered away from home

Also go online and price up a new screen, its probably less than you think.
My brother cracked his iPhone screen about 3 weeks after getting it and it wasn't too bad, and I'd have said Apple are as expensive as they get.
If all you are worried about is the price of say a screen I'd personally not bother with the insurance, I mean £7.99, you could probably get £50k life insurance for that.

spoke to my home insurer. That would be an extra £38 pa [£12 pro rata til renewal] to provide the same cover.
