So Jack still has his wonderful glasses at the start
I see Starbuck's ex is getting them both into all sorts of trouble now, well his partner is at least you just know it will comeback round soon.
OMG, Jack gets stabbed (but still manages a superb throw of a knife to the neck and a shot through a wall! Way to go Jack, and nice violent kill by Renee on Vladamir. Jack just puts a small bandage on it and keeps going like it is nothing
Then the seller's guys turn up and Jack goes and gets taken on purpose and CTU lose him because he goes undergroud.
Overall rating is a little better than last week but I really hope the pace picks up soon.
Trailer for next week's episode looks quite good and Jack get's properly tortured, electric shocks and all :D
That this season has been awful is a given, but trust Jack to pull the rabbit out of the hat and offer some magic. And by rabbit I mean knife. And by hat I mean his own gut. And by offer some magic I mean throw said knife at the throat of a goon and get a bullseye. 180! from Jack 'The Power' Bauer.
But yeah, things are slowly picking up if only because it looks like they're doing away with anything resembling an attempt at an interesting plot and instead going for best moments of ultraviolence in the history of 24.

.
That's Bully's Special Prize! Moooooo
Also, what would prove a 'fatal' injury to most is simply patched up with a bit of white duck tape.
As for Renee, come on Jack you know what she wants, get on with it :n0rty:

I was starting to lose hope in this show being interesting again! Lovely bit of Jacktion at the end there. And some torture next week? This is more like it lol

Jack's knife throw has to be the best thing he's ever done - and he's done a lot.
That is worth it. Poor season so far but the kill of Vlad (the impaled), the stab of Jack and the oh my blimey moment, followed by the reaffirmation he is the hardest man ever to live when he kills the german speaking baddie and forgets that his stomach had a few inches of steel inserted into 5 seconds ago.
Wicked.

Those 30 seconds of Jacktion were AWESOME! I was totally falling asleep with all the tedious Blondie and Dumb & Dumber nonsense (why hasn't Chloe caught on to her yet by the way) but then Renee finally went loopy and brightened things right up . BAM, knife to Vlad's eye (I like the "Vlad the impaled" above ) followed by rapid DIE DIE DIE stabbing! Then stabbing Herr Bauer right in the stomach ! His specsavers disguise was so good that Renee totally didn't recognise him! But 'tis but a scratch, he pulls the knife out and gets dodgy bearded goon right in the neck from 15 feet away :notworthy. Followed by some John Woo style gun fu through-the-wall shooting to finish off the rest of the badness :D. What a hero!!!!1111!!
Don't be surprised that Jack can take a knife to the chest in his stride, the guy has come back from the dead before after all!
Shame the rest of the ep after that was garbage. Broken Renee was a bit sad  ... sedation in a CTU bed for the rest of the day for her I think.
The whole Renee thing really is grating now though. Someone touched on it in the last episode thread and I was already thinking the same. The writers of this series have invented some back story that she was dallying with the Russian mafia hardcases in her past life, guys that'll shoot their own kids FFS. Totally doesn't add up with the torture-averse rookie last season. They should have done a lot better with her back story to help this season, what they've come up with for her is nonsense.
Can't wait to see the bingo grid analysis for this week!

Think that episode is going to contain the best 30 seconds of the season! That knife to the head was BRUTAL :D
Agreed, 30 seconds saves the episode. Was bordering on switching off and watching later in the week.
Two things that have annoyed me so far this season:
1. Why hasn't there been any type of explanation or comment about the fact that Jack was terminally ill with radiation poisoning at the end of S7 yet is now fit and healthy? I guess that 1 in a million shot that Kim could be a donor in the experimental operation were sucessful but surely it should have been addressed properly.
2. Why does nobody recognise Jack when he was on live TV at the start of S7 in that court battle?
Will still watch every week but it is just recycling everything we've seen before into one new season. It's almost like watching the high/low lights of the previous 7 series rolled into one.
When they said it would be set in New York this time I thought great we'll see some fantastic outdoor scenes based in Manhattan etc. but as they took the cheap route and filmed it in LA that aspect has been lost so far. Hope for more when daylight arrives.

This was addressed specifically during the first episode when it was mentioned that his meds were working and there had been no sign of any radiation in his body.

Plus it wasnt radiation, its was a Weaponised virus that attacks the brain like CJD.
Keep up ;)
Oh of course, silly me. I'm sure a few spoons of medicene each day would have fixed it, I don't know what all the fuss was about ;)
As others have said, 30 seconds of classic Jacktion helped keep me awake through another horrendously dull episode. Starbuck "shifty" overacting at CTU was worth a chuckle.
Next week's trailer doesn't look good either, they should be torturing the writers for torturing the viewers with such boring episodes!
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xZBCZ0edE9k&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xZBCZ0edE9k&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
Yep, dull again. Just how stupid are the chaps blackmailing Starbuck?! Seriously, would ANYBODY hang around for 20 minutes ripping open packages when you knew that someone was going to be coming round?!?! Gah! Oh, and as for Jack being stabbed, and it was a full length of knife stab, in the stomach then being fine 2 minutes later is just daft!
Oh of course, silly me. I'm sure a few spoons of medicene each day would have fixed it, I don't know what all the fuss was about ;)
Which translates as too busy trashing the show to listen to what's being said ;)

Should be better now they've benched Renee and Jack's gone in deep on his own.
Loved the throwing knife and the FMJ kill. One more and he gets a UAV.

I think the problem with the show is they've killed off too many of the good cast (Edgar, Curtis, Logan, Palmer) and then replaced them with mediocre ones. Tony's return could have been great last season, but he just turned annoying as hell and I was anticipating the episodes where'd they'd kill him off. No doubt he'll be back again in this one, too.
The head of CTU always seems to be borderline retarded. Relying on everyone else to sort things out, and goes from not trusting Bauer, to relying on his every word - this has been the case pretty much every season. Plus it's like this new one has been plucked straight out of The Wire (not a bad thing, but it's obvious he's trying too hard).
The fact Chloe always needs another female to 'keep her eye on' every season is getting really old now too. Plus Starbuck is a poorly written character as it is, and everything she does it just highly retarded, i.e. meeting her criminal ex-boyfriend in the CTU car park, or helping him via their computers. We all know Chloe's or the other dude will look back at what happened!
And Bauer getting shanked was one of the most ridiculous things in TV history. Falling on Freckles in a slumber, and you are left thinking he's gonna be in hospital for the next few episodes. Then the ads finish and he's all patched up and looking no worse for wear! And Bauer has his cellphone on him, and we all know CTU can track people via that, so why is the ending supposed to be a shock?
And sticking on the topic of Agent Freckles, her character doesn't even compare to the one last season. She's gone from a Rookie Bauer to a female Charley Manson. Stabbing somebody in the eye ball? She's a trained agent, what's wrong with her breaking his leg or something? And I think they are already lining up her and Bauer to leave CTU and be together when the show ends. Is this the last one BTW?

^^ That's basically it I think. Makes me laugh how 24 shows no nudity, but yet has a guy get stabbed in the eye socket and then repeatedly in the stomach, two guys with axes to the chest at the start and numerous people being strangled or having their necks broken. It's like when you go on the Saw movies' iMDB messageboard and see Americans asking "Is there nudity in this?" becaise their son/daughter want to see it!

It always amuses me that American stuff is fine with violence, but nudity/sex is trimmed/avoided.......and German stuff is fine with nudity/sex, but violence is trimmed/avoided...
However that jab to the face was quite brutal - maybe this will be the first 24 to get an 18 cert in the UK on DVD? (Or cut...)
Maybe I'm a bit slow, buy why was Renee in the shower in the previous episode ?
Whatever she did to that guy's hand could've spurted a lot of blood which she wanted to wash off

This is the worst run of 24 episodes I've ever seen. It took an hour to progress the plot from "we don't know who has the nuclear material" to "the people with the nuclear material arrive via sewer like the ******* Ninja Turtles and take Jack away". In fact, I recall the writing of some episodes of the Turtles were superior to this. Jacktion aside, this episode had nothing of note. The government and Starbuck subplots are inconsequential. I don't mind 24 being daft. I don't mind it being preposterous and full of holes. In fact I expect it. What I do care about is it not being dull. Without anything to make the show interesting (like the mental part at the end of this one), you are free to concentrate solely on the plot and the writing, neither of which have been anything other than dire.
Bingo this episode:

Handy blade of varying length, which retracts to cause a mere flesh wound if used on a Good Guy!

I had to come on here just to see what was being said about the knife throw.
I enjoy 24, I really do, and I will forgive various unlikely scenarios in the interests of good viewing, but that scene was without doubt the most ludicrous that I have seen out of all the series....
I mean it actually made me laugh out loud, so improbable was it. To be lying writhing in agony with what looked like a potentially lethal stab wound in the abdomen, and then immediately recover, pull out knife and throw from a prostrate position with deadly accuracy into the would-be killer's throat.... I mean, come on! :cuckoo:

He's Jack Bauer. That's all the explanation you need.
Caught up with this last night... that knife throw was awesome lol.
I'm quite enjoying this season (though not as much as last), but it's a struggle getting through it because my wife (who's Russian) keeps moaning about how the "Russians" don't look, sound or behave anything like Russians. (The priest was especially amusing because Orthodox priests all have long beards whereas he was clean shaven.) The Russian language dialogue in this episode was so badly pronounced that it was almost totally unrecognisable as Russian - they should have put Russian subtitles on as well as English!

For those who watch the US broadcast - was the eye stab shown properly or did the camera cut away like the UK broadcast? The way it's been described in this thread makes it sound more graphic than what I saw on Sky One.

I'm close to giving up on this. The first four episodes were good but now I'm finding myself doing other stuff whilst I'm watching. Jack getting stabbed made me stop but the resolution was just truly aweful. Such lazy writing. Coupled with the dull as dish water side plots and it may well be the end. The first three seasons were must watch but now its a hollow shell of the show it once was.
Anybody want to take a bet that the British UN Envoy gets tagged as part of the conspiracy somehow?

He was the awesome 01 Boxer from Charlie Jade (for the 6 people who may have watched it ;)).
Tsk. To think I thought that Casualty style placement of a very sharp pointy bread knife in the room was entirely inconsiquential.

Now, I can barely remember to watch the episodes are they become, err, available.

As much as I hate to say it, I'm starting to feel the same way. I know there's still a long way to go, but I'm not impressed with this season so far.
What's the point of the back story about Dana and her scumbag boyfriend? I wouldn't mind so much if it was going somewhere, but so far it just seems to be there for till time.
