Could be very interesting if true, about time someone stood up and had a go at the big two, no confirmations as of yet, one to keep your eye on though. According to the article, work is being done with Liverpool and Steven Gerrard, perhaps it's going to be based soley on Championship football

So there will be a Dive, spectacular dive, and smack a dj moves built in?
Worth keeping an eye open for further news
i predict ubisoft soccer 2011 will come out late this year and prove to be one of the most engaging footie games ever, followed by US 2012 next year and 2013 the year after. Both will be slightly worse than the one before but still decent enough.
Ubisoft soccer 2014 will finally come out in 2016. During the production they will decide to reimagine it as an ice hockey game and at the last moment drop the multi-player option
Sorry, i'm still annoyed at what's happened with splinter cell

I'm all for a new footy game that goes back to the basics. I enjoy the recent FIFA games but for me, they've made things waaay too complicated with a zillion different combo/skill moves. I want them to go back to simpler times, with just basic dribble/sprint, shoot, tackle, pass controls. Combine that with full licenced players/teams & a half-decent footy-manager-mode that works, and i'd be happy. :)
Good luck to them but there mental imo - there'll be fanboys queueing up to slate it, theres a fair whack of football games last gen as examples which have failed miserably.....pretty much everything with the exception of Fifa, ISS and Pes imo then theres the amount of work which has went into Fifa and Pes over the years.
To me it doesn't get much riskier than making a game as a direct competitor to Fifa/Pes it'll have to be nigh on perfect and bring new features to the table.

To be fair to EA they've been getting much better with Fifa while PES seems content on doing incredibly minor upgrades to their system. So here's hoping some more competition makes Konami pull their finger out.
PES did significant downgrades imo. The fact that PES5 played better than 6 and 2008 says it all for me. Not bought it since.
