I have the single disk which was released at the same time as the three disk set and I can tell you it is uncut. As the film disks are identical in both sets it's safe to assume theyr'e both uncut;)

It is completely uncut! BTW buy the limited edition if available because it is worth every penny. The 3 DVD box, the lobby cards, the booklet, the soundtrack, the extra dvd... It is superb!

The picture may be uncut....but Sound FX and music have been fiddled with, some added, some removed, some moved and others played around with. See Video Watchdog 79 for a listing of some of the major sequences altered in this way e.g. lots more screams during the first murder.

Can anyone supply the info from "Video Watchdog 79" or point me to somewhere that lists the audio tweaks on this release?

cheers

The most noticeable changes, to me, are that when the school bell rings, Suzy and Sara react to it BEFORE you hear the sound; during the witches' communion, thunder sound effects are missing at one point, yet you still see the lightning; the sound levels when Daniel is killed by his dog are messed up, and the music levels when Pat is being killed near the beginning are too quiet. While it's not a terrible mix by any means, you just have to switch to the Italian or French tracks to hear how different the sound levels are.

And just so as to be fair, here is Bill Lustig's response to the complaints lobbied against his remix:

The 2-disc R2 is virtually identical to the R1 LE, except that the DTS track is screwed up. Though it might have been fixed by now.

Yes, they re-released it with corrected DTS. However, the re-release no longer has the Italian audio track, making the R0 US LE the only way to go in my opinion.

I thought the actors all spoke in their own languages and then it was dubbed or subtitled to whatever language track was needed.

True, but I assume Dario Argento originally wrote it in Italian, so it's nice to be able to access the original dialogue, even if you're going to be listening to the English 6.1 tracks most of the time.

By the way, I should also point out that the Suspiria 25th anniversary documentary on the US 3-disc release is much better (and more relevant to the film in question) than the World of Horror documentary on the UK 2-disc release.

During the taxi ride at the start, the thumping persistent Goblin music has been mixed too low.And during the first murder, the sound as the rope comes away from the wall has been removed completely-although I heard it for the first time on LD,it was on the original Region2 dvd,and is sorely missed
