Does anyone know why the Acer Aspire Revo R3610 Linux version has disappeared from sale?
I wanted to grab that version to stick XBMC Live on it as I don't need windows but would like dual core, but I can't find it for sale anywhere. I'm sure I saw it on loads of sites a couple of weeks back

I've read that it's something to do with a lack of VESA mounting brackets. Acer are addressing this and a new SKU will be on sale 'soon'.

Ah right so they forgot to put the vesa mounts on, you'd think there'd still be some left over stock somewhere unless they recalled them all from the retailers.
Trying to decide whether paying the extra £100 is worth it for a Win7 version which i'll prob never use .

I've been looking for one as well and gave up. I've ordered the Asus AT3N7A motherboard and other bits to make a similar spec system.

Quite a few people have bought from this company over on other forums such as the xbmc one, seems fairly legit from what I can gather. I'm sure it was only around £150 in the UK for this version when it was available though - might hold out until they rerelease it with the vesa mounts.

Was it £150 rrp for the 3610? I did see it at that price but I think it was a website that was having a special offer on it.

The 3600 is what you may be thinking of and around £145 and is good enough for XBMC, although it's recommended you upgrade the memory from 1gb to 2gb for 1080p stuff. IIRC, the website that had it for £160 went tits up soon after.
The one in the eBay listing is a Taiwanese import, hence the cheaper price. Ebay is awash with them and the Chinese symbols on the keyboard is how you can spot them (and mentioned in the listing). It will be fine as long as it doesn't go wrong, but I'm not sure if Acer have an international warranty.

I might take the risk. The 3600 would be ok, but it doesn't have optical out does it?

I don't think it does. It isn't a consideration for me as everything I have hooked up is by HDMI.

like the look of that one - could do with the bigger hard drive
just wondering whether it would get hit for duty and/or customs?

From the eBay page:
Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding / buying. Sometime customs will inspect the parcel and sometime will not. We will send the product as gift or sample and put lower value on invoice to help customer avoid the import duty.

I've been watching these as well :) there's at least one comment in the feedback about having to pay £25 import duty.

I got my Linux 3610 for £160 from Ballicom (www.ballicom.co.uk), who still appear to be going strong.
They have no stock of the Linux 3610 any more though, and their prices on the Revos they do stock have gone through the roof.
