View Full Version : Nokia N97 Mini
Couldn't find a dedicated thread for this new phone, so thought I'd start one myself.
Personally, I've gone to this from using an iPhone 2g. I still expect myself to go back to an iPhone if/when a v.4 model comes out, but in the 2 weeks I've had the N97 I'm quite pleased.
The 3g speeds are brilliant, the camera is good, and the downloadable Opera browser is the best mobile browser I've ever seen.
The ovi store isn't anywhere near as good as apple's, and I'd rather have a capacitive touch screen, but the pro's and con's are keeping each other pretty balanced at the moment.
I was slightly unsure about getting one, as I'd heard awful things about the original N97, but the N97mini comes with the new Firmware pre-installed, and I haven't had it crash or freeze once yet. (touch wood ;) )
Anyone else got one, or planning on one?
Any thoughts on good apps to consider?

What's your battery life like my wife has had one for a week and is lucky if she gets 8 hours battery life with very light us.
Strange. The first couple of days I had it the battery was terrible, but as with any new gadget I was using it a lot.
A full day at least usually. Today it's been unplugged since 9am and 12 hours later it's still almost full. I've taken a couple of photos, checked twitter, and sent some texts, so not much.
I think using the 3g connection a lot seems to drain it. Similar to with the iPhone by many accounts

If you are using Nokia Messaging or the Exchange client, these can both reduce battery life. Also if you have the home widgets running, these will also eat your battery.
I just opened one of these and first impressions are good. What are the must have apps for the N97?
Gravity for twitter is good.
Some of the games for Ngage are good
There's lots, but as with the apple ones, I got bored of most of them, as what's pre-installed on the phone does the job :D
Yep I just setup the accuview weather, Nokia PhotoBrowser (excellent app that gives the iphone photo app a run for it's money), PaintPad (Painting app) and a nice running app that let's you track your runs.
Other than that I'm not a twitter user but use the FB plugin a bit.
I've got an N97 and its the best phone i've ever bought so can imagine you'd be quite impressed with the mini. what are the main differences?

A few weeks in and the mini is fast becoming the best phone I've ever had, the touchscreen is really responsive and the keyboard is sleek.
The only niggle I have is the signal, sometimes for no reason it just drops out, does anyone else suffer this even with their n97? Compared to my E71 it's about one or two bars down in the same part of the house. I'm running debranded and with the latest software v10.0.020
Seems I'm not the only one... Hmmmm
