View Full Version : Old Sky+ box, can't access recordings

I've replaced my Sky+ box with a Sky+ HD box. I took the satellite feeds out of the old box and plugged them into the new. I found I could still watch the old Sky+ recordings, except the ones from premium channels as I had removed the card.

I thought I'd be clever and take the old box up to the bedroom so that we could watch the recordings on it upstairs but now it just says 'searching for listings' and won't let me get to any recordings. Does it have to have a signal to see what is on the disk? Can I just plug in a cable for a few minutes, let it update then unplug it again?

The box needs connecting to the satellite dish to be able to watch any recordings on the hard drive. Once the FTA/FTV recording has started playing back you can disconnect it from the sat dish (Sky allowed this to happen so you didn't have to stop watching if your signal was temporarily interrupted) - but the connection must be there when you start playing the recording back. If you stop and re-start the recording, you will need to reconnect the box to the sat dish again. All subscription recordings need the card that was in the box when the recording was made to be put back into the box to watch the recording. Premium recordings won't play back at all, because the card is no longer paired with the box.

Thank broadz - back to plan A then! The handy thing is that I've put the old card in that was replaced by SKY recently and that seems to let me watch all my non-premium channel recordings. I guess they'll disable it eventually...
