Played all the previous PC versions but this is first time on a console. I HATE using a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard for FPS games so will have to see how I go :D

Must have been having one of my lucky nights - I'm distinctively average in most games.

Did you get into our game from the friends list somehow or did it throw you in randomly? I've stumbled across several people on my friends list on the opposing team in TDM the last couple of nights.

Good game last night Stellafella and nice to talk to you, shame I had to leave once the game had ended - the wife had finished wathcing a programme about an american family with 18 kids and Top Gear becknoned! Will try to get some online time everynight for the foreseeable future me thinks! I'll be up for a private game if we can get enough people.

Wondered where you disappeared to. My wife was trying to coax me into watching "celebrity" but I refused :) My usual partner-in-crime was watching TopGear too but he should be on tonight...

Had some great games tonight online with HubbaHubba, Marv and DSG. :thumbs:

I really need to get a headset for this - is there one I can get for the PS3 which is like headphones, but has a little talky-mic attachment that they have in callcentres with a USB connection?

There were a couple of times when I went up to a sentry gun in my riot gear and knocked it into submission - unfortunately, it was being guarded by 3 people from 3 different locations and so I got shot up pretty quickly - coulda done with some backup! :)

I think I joined your team death match game for a bit? Eventually. Got confused by the [F-15] clan tags and the highish XP and left at first as I thought I joined some random game by accident. Which I may still have done!

Anyway got a kicking and left after a couple!
Yes that was us :) [T-16] is the clan tag that me and Marv and our mates use. At one point I had 9 friends in one TDM as people kept joining the game session on the "other" side.

Darkside23 - Not sure what it's doing to be honest. I usually set the party up as historically we've had most success that way but occasionally I'll lose people when searching for a game. If I notice someone missing I usually ask the other party members to pull out of the lobby after me in an attempt to keep the party together.

Well last night was my first proper go at multiplayer and had a blast with you guys. Totally crap at it though still lol. My aiming is fine until an enemy is actually in front and then my crosshair shoots up into the sky or ground :lol: Made a few levels and some progress with the challenges though. Does MW2 have any multiplayer game modes like Counter-Strike where you have objectives and no respawning?

There are plenty of objective type games that we could have a go at one night. How about headquarters or domination? I'm not too keen on the non-respawning game modes as I spend more time spectating than playing :)

As far as headsets go... I have 2 - a Samsung that was originally used with my phone and a PS3 one from Game. Most people say that my Samsung one has better sound quality (that's the one I was using last night). Any bluetooth headset will work so I'd just pick up one for a tenner from Sainsburys or similar.

This may seem a daft question, but don't the bluetooth headsets go in one ear only? How do you get stereo and tell where the enemy are?

Yeah, the main game sounds still come out through the surround sound. Just voice chat comes through the headset. It's configurable under "accessories settings" so you can have all sound through your headset if you like.

I was :lol: when you beat that guy down with your riot shield right at the start of the Quarry game. I was right behind and watched you sneak up on him. Made me laugh anyhoo.

Was good fun, though I really need to up my kill rate. The amount of times I'd not see anyone for a while then get shot in the back as I searched around.......Grrrrrr.

I have that problem as well Bear! I also like to get stuck in which normally involves me getting nailed very quickly. Also some players must have exceptional eyesight as they get you from afar and even you can't see youself on the killcam!

Hated those campers with sniper rifles with infrared scopes on the Invasion level last night - just couldn't get near them (and when I did I got blown up by a carefully placed claymore, the rascals).

my connection is just becoming a joke..
my NAT seems to have a mind of it's own.. i had Strict NAT on Xbox stopping me from getting into the Forza game at 9pm, after 2 router reboots it finally changed to Open.. after forza i load up PS3 and my NAT is Moderate :shrug:
several Router Reboots and Port settings entered later.. no change...
my NAT was Open on the PS3 last night however..

bottom line.. if i have Moderate NAT in CoD6 and i join DSG's party i'm removed as soon as the party joins a game.. i can however then join on the enemy side :shrug::shrug::shrug:

maybe time i put a call in to the ISP..

I used you as a shield a few times :thumbs: Got first blood on that 9v9 game on Favela as you inched up the steps with the riot shield out... I just popped a few shots over your shoulder at the guy who rushed you :) Me and Marv had a right laugh with the riot shields on Karachi again. There's just something so satisfying when you club someone to death with the riot shield... I had one guy pinned up against the wall with it trying to stab me :lol:

Seems to be getting a little better... we actually succesfully merged lobbies and migrated hosts between games and kept the party together a few times.

Good games last Night, Stigdu sure loves his riot shield. Me and DSG were getting quite a few with it on one level. People don't seem to have a clue what to do, so they get Shielded to death.

I'll be on at 9pm too. Well hopefully, still at work atm.

I've never really played online that much before and I'm REALLY loving this but I'm crap...I only average about 5 kills per game (any game type).

what am I doing wrong?

My setup is
Scar with Heartbeat & Silencer
PP200 with Silencer
BLING
STOPPING POWER PRO
SLEIGHT OF HAND PRO

Well it depends entirely on your style of play - I assume from this setup you like to be stealthy and be aware of the enemy before they see you at the expense of accurate fire? The silencer decreases accuracy and personally I think the heartbeat sensor is useful sometimes but mostly just takes up too much of the screen. I also think you pay less attention to the general environment if you keep glancing down at this.

Personally I suffer using any automatic weapons if I don't use the red-dot sight. To make it super accurate (as you've got bling), combine it with the handgrip if it's in the LMG class.

I've only unlocked the top 3 mgs but if the last Modern Warfare is anything to go by, the M4 is fast and accurate - and in this game most encounters are simply a question of whether you or the opponent in front of you can get a shot on target quicker. It's like the wild west!

I'm not that stealthy to be honest. The only reason I'm using the silencers is because I don't want to give my position away.

My friend at work recomended that I switch to the M4 as it has no recoil but I'll need to go back to having no attachments.

I'm up to level 20 with a near fully unlocked M4 but I'm still crap, getting killed 3:1 against high ranking players. Yesterday was horrible for some reason but the day before I'd been pretty much 1:1.

Most of it is about learning the maps, knowing exactly where you are and where other players are likely to be when you're there, I'm not awful on Favela, but on Sub Base I stink.

Not a fan of the heartbeat sensor either, holographic for me. Sorry for leaving the lobby last night guys but I'd been waiting 20mins and needed to get a game in quick.

M4 doesn't seem to have the greatest stopping power, even with Stopping Power perk.

Standing in windows/doorways for more than half a second is a no-no. You seem to stroll out into the killing zone without a care in the world... I'm surprised you survived that first amble across the map :)

Your aiming seems a little slow. You have to use your peripheral vision to spot *any* movement whatsoever and when you see a pixel change you need your gun aimed at it straight away. When you got the first kill the guy was visible for a good few seconds before you opened fire and then you missed the chance of a double-kill by completely ignoring his teammate who ran across. That could have been 2 kills with one burst of fire.

Also, when you ran up to the helicopter at 1'52" you should have switched to your P2000 and then shot that guy in the legs before he even saw you. When you're up by the chopper you need to be crouching or prone and don't move around so much.

Finally, (I haven't watched all the video btw) when you were by the chopper you should have kept your gun trained on the corner of that window. That's a spawn point and you could have racked up 4 or 5 kills as each enemy ran aorund the corner and out of the window.

We ended up coming up against the DVDf crew in one TDM. Stigdu sure likes his riot shield! I think he battered me (haznick) with it a couple of times. The only reason we managed to win one on the Sub Base map was that we had some random 63 Rank player on our team who racked up an impressive 32 kills on that one game. Honestly, he was running around like a maniac capping people left right and centre. Very funny to watch.

The riot shield's fantastic, I use it nearly all the time. :thumbs: It's particularly effective (and gives you a ton of XP) against sentry guns. Just slowly creep up to one, wait for all the bullets to ricochet off, then give it a little bash. Job done. :D

...or the feet if I forget to crouch, or run round the side of me and stab me, or noob tube somewhere near me, or chuck a grenade behind me, etc... :)

The inordinately frustrating thing is that so many times, I've run up to someone to whack them with the riot shield, and they do a quick little sidestep and stab me in the side. Yet when I was confronted with stellafella72 (DSG) doing the same thing against me, I tried sidestepping and stabbing, only to stab his riot shield 3 times in a row, and the ****** promptly kilked me!! :brickwall

Somehow last night I managed to sidestep and stab DSG (cheers for the invite again) on Highrise when he was coming towards me with his shield. Not to mention stickying him with some semtex at another point, which I enjoyed watching explode!

I only got to play with you guys again briefly last night. One of the guys at work has just got his online sorted and is now addicted to it!

Anyone played any private matches on Rust? There was just 3 of us last night and I thought that'd be an ideal map but it was a pretty dull game even with it's small area. Maybe needed a couple more players than just 3.

Sorry dude, nothing personal. Truth be known I didn't even notice the invite come in. I'lll check later to see if it is stuck in my inbox. Haven't had problems getting invites before though so it was probably me.

Actually I am begining to think not seeing/noticing things could be linked to me getting killed a lot in MP!

It's certainly crying out for some sort of 'groupings' functionality. A bit like an email group so you can see/message all in a group in one shot.

I was only on for a few games near the end tonight but we were kicking ass in every game! Who was that who ended the Afghan map with 23 kills vs 0 deaths???
Yeah we totally dominated in most games last night :) On Afghan my mate Juggs went 23:0 and I went 21:2 with my best killstreak so far of 17.

If I'm not in a party I go down my friends list until I get the "join session" option then I join their game to give them the hint that I'm waiting for an invite :) I did that last night and joined Marv's game then Juggs turned up as well so we all pulled back to set up the party.

I'm up for a private game if there are lots of us on. At least half the people on my friends list seem to play single player or spec ops most of the time though so they'll be seriously out-gunned in a private game...

Can I ask DVD Forums members who aren't in a clan to put the clan tag DVDF before their username? It makes us all easily identifiable to each other.

Sent out a load more invites again (Gedi, George Vader, Staerker, the_daddy plus some more) but got no response again.

It would be nice to get a little message back saying "can't right now" or "another time" perhaps... Maybe this is something they'll introduce in a patch later down the line whereby you can quick reply to a party/lobby/game invite.

Yeah I was thinking the other day that some kind of in game messaging system would have been nice. Just some basic predefined messages so you can say hello/goodbye or that you're going for a cuppa. Without a mic you basically seem to be screwed (and Play don't seem to be in any rush to get the one I ordered back in stock).

Yeah sorry, I may have been guilty of this in the past. Mostly it's not me being ignorant but getting the message midway through a game and then forgetting to respond later.

T-16 is the clan tag that Marv chose for the small group of us that played regularly on WaW in the early days a year ago. We've resurrected it for MW2. If anyone wants to use it then feel free... it's not an exclusive club :)

Yeah it was most of the the lads I work with who have the game. There's 7 of us with the game now so we have dubbed ourselves MAG7 (Magnificent 7!!).

Problem is there's a couple who have only just got the game and aren't familiar with the game-types, meaning we lose quite a few. Saying that though I seem to be running rubbish at the minute, barely getting more than 7 or so kills a game.

It was good to have such a big team for a change though. We'll certainly invite you again if you're free at the same time, especially as you drag our sorry asses through the games most of the time!

Stupid stupid game of frustration. Finally I am getting into double figure kills on some maps. Even had a few 3rds and a second on free for all. Amazingly had a few games with more kills than deaths.

But for all that I still suck big time against the 'good' players. What is it that makes them good? I wish I could follow one or two around to find out!

It is map knowledge. Certainly has to help a fair bit?

Weapon choice? I've pretty much stuck with my trusty Famas after hopeless brief tries of other guns.

Tactics? In free for all I migrated from not quite camping but staking out a few locations to a more rush and kill. I kill more. But I die more!

Are they just quicker to the trigger? Probably.

Gaaaaah.

But loving it still. It has that just one more go factor. And then its suddenly 1am !

I must investigate the other games past free-for-all and team deathmatch!

I find that the good players know what areas to go to when people have respawned and the best camping spots on buildings, also they tend to get their sights bang on you much quicker and very rarely miss with bullets, whereas I usually spray a few around the edge of them whilst I'm homing the sights in on them.

Domination is a really good game. 3 areas to capture and hold, always good rewarding fun running from one to the next and securing the base for your team.

Hmm haven't got in game much recently. With 2 weeks off from Friday was looking forward to some games but just fractured a bone in my left hand at the weekend so no PS3 for me for a while :(

I think I'm finding my speciality in this game - calling in a care package only for it to end up up on a ********* ledge above me. I managed to get a quick snap of this particularly annoying beauty on High Rise before I died shortly after.

It is pretty funny hearing the pained howls of players who call in the big air drop only for the random crates to end up on top of buildings or that particularly annoying level with a road flyover hanging over it menacingly.

There's a surprising amount of strategy involved in MW2 - in one game I noticed a player leaving his care package unclaimed to entice the enemy into his line of fire trap. Like lambs to the slaughter!

I've killed a fair few enemy just noticing where the packages are dropped then throwing grenades over huge distances towards the drop zone.

Great pic. I feel your pain. You should try the Emergency air drop killstreak as it's a bout a 2 mile radius where they are dropped from your marker :oh-hum:

Lots of glitches that people have been posting on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=modern+warfare+2+glitches&search_type=&aq=f) - most have been removed with patches now.

Stuff like getting unlimited ammo, care packages, getting outside the map etc. Never saw any of this online though so it hadn't affected any games for me.

The reason you didn't see it is because most of the "popular" glitches didn't affect the PS3. I've played this game nearly every night since the 10th Nov and have only ever seen ONE javelin glitcher on PS3.

If people are playing regularly (TDM) then you can send me an invite if you like, stellafella72. If you're a play for 2 nights then move onto the next demo available for download then don't bother. I've already deleted all of the people from my friends list who stopped playing after the first week or who never replied to game invites.

In all my playing time (since release day) I've never seen a single example of that so why somebody would stop playing the game because of it is beyond me.

The only cheat I've heard about on PS3 is the 10th Prestige and that hardly affects in game play ....

I had some very dodgy games with you yesterday. The first few I couldn't aim for toffee but I gradually got into it.

I've been watching some of the better players on YouTube with the commentaries they do. They have the uncanny knack of knowing where players are going to be coming from and can spot a pixel moving at 100 yards, rarely miss, and often don't stray far from one area of a map yet they still get between 25-50 kills.

I wish I could make it look that easy.

Currently at rank 65, starting to think about prestige but don't know if I can bare losing all my guns and perks, especially as I recently got the tactical knife which I just love :thumbs:
