View Full Version : Mobile Data abroad (next trip - France)

Anyone know any cheap ways to get mobile data (e.g. USB dongle in a laptop) when overseas?

I make extensive use of my PAYG £2/day T-mobile stick here, and need something similar for occasional trips abroad, in particular a week in Paris in December.

Got thoroughly wallet-busted when I went to Australia recently, but that's to be expected really ... hoping for something far far cheaper and vaguely comparable to UK rates when staying in Europe!

Cheapest thing I have found so far is 6h for €25 on a €9 dongle from orange.fr but does anyone know of anything else in France (or European countries I might visit later) that is just pay for the days you need with no contract, OR a uk-based data PAYG or contact that has sensible rates when roaming?

It's bloody annoying that companies like 3, T-Mobile and Orange etc all exist in their own names throughout Europe but continue to treat each market as completely separate and are quite happy to price-rape their own users when they dare to travel. Thought the EU was supposed to stamp out this sort of nonsense.

edit: I should add that I don't need massive movie-downloading size capacity, just enough to keep up with the forums, email, some work vpn access etc, say 50mb / day.
