View Full Version : Naked Killer
Naked Killer, just read on the HKL's website that this is no longer going to be released as a Platinum Edition, and just a Special Collectors Edition :(
I have never seen this movie and have heard good things abou it, its just a shame that it aint gonna be a Platinum Edition :(

To be honest, I was pretty baffled as to why they were making it a Platinum edition in the first place – it’s a fairly ordinary thriller at base, and I’m not at all sure where its reputation comes from.
Even my favourite bit – the subtitle “the reproductive organ was bursted by bullet” – will undoubtedly be cleaned up by the new translation!

Believe me this is great news when you consider what title will now be a Platinum Edition :D

This is not really a bad news, it was a surprising choice for a special platinium edition anyway. The movie is fun enough so and it's true that I'll probably missed the originals subtitles!
What is it???? Please?????
Ooh I've said too much! Lol

Drunken Master innit ?
Maybe one of the John Woo movies that were part of the Golden Harvest deal is coming out sooner than we think????

John 316, peeps over @ bulletsnbabes (http://www.bulletsnbabesdvds.com) seem to be thinking the next Platinum release will be The Killer.
Though that's mainly speculation.#

Seen that but they are saying 4th quarter of this year - surely RichB is hinting at something coming much sooner than that?

I think you're right - oh well, bank on the waiting train for The Killer - next stop, 4th quarter this year!
i'd think that HKL would be pretty keen to get The Killer out as soon as possible so hopefully that would be the next Platinum release.
Not in regards as to rushing the restoration or anything like that but im sure they've got a fair few people beavering away on the print (or prints - hopefully they'll give us the taiwanese print as well :) ).
Let's face it, HKL are going to make a bloody fortune off The Killer alone - you'll have us lot buying it plus loads of HK film fans are bound to get it imported into whatever country they are in.
Best move HKL ever made was getting the rights for it :) :)
I cant wait!

I've got the Taiwanese print, but I thought that this was an unauthorised directors cut / workprint. If this is the case, then I can't see it ever being released with Woo's approval :(
I'd be more than happy to eat my words though :)
...ahh... FYI and FWIW, a two-DVD DigiPak Limited Collector's Edition of The Killer, including the 'World Release' and the 'Taiwan Version' was released in France last October - the first featuring Cantonese mono (with 'locked' French subtitles) and French mono soundtracks and various extras, the second featuring only a Cantonese mono soundtrack (with 'locked' French subs) and more extras:

That's the one that I've got. The Taiwanese print has got burnt in Cantonese and English subtitles, but it's still an unofficial workprint of the movie.

John Woo's personal favourite is Bullet in the Head and that deserves the Platinum treatment.

I don’t think Woo would have any problem with the additional scenes being presented separately – as has happened on plenty of editions in the past (Criterion, Made in Hong Kong VHS, etc.), which would be the best all-round solution.
