Thinking of getting one,and would like to know if it performs well.I haven't got a massive room so I don't need to much power.Thre other amp I'm thinking about is the Marantz SR 4200.
I read this on the http://www.dvdblokes.com site:
'During our visit to the Bristol Hifi Show DVDBlokes were interested to find out about the problem that Dolby Digital are having with certain new releases and A/V receivers. Dolby have issued a statement on their website which says the following:
"Unfortunately, certain makes and models of A/V receivers contain incompatibilities that cause them to suffer audio dropouts in the presence of these new bitstream flags. Dolby has seen several reports of such problems, and we are still in the process of identifying all of the root issues."
Alarmed with this news we decided to investigate and found that we had problems with one of our A/V receivers (Denon AVR-1602). The two discs that we managed to find problems with were Jurassic Park 3 and Pearl Harbor. DTS soundtracks appear to play correctly. Also, just to confirm that this is a problem with discs from all regions. To read more about this problem follow this link: http://dolby.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/dolby.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=ODQ6iM7g&p_lva=&p_faqid=129&p_created=1008952532&p_sp=cF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTYxJnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li= . We'll keep you updated with any developments.'
What Hi FI did a group test a couple of months ago (Jan 02 issue)and gave the 1602 5 stars (out of 5!), a close second to the Marantz SR4200. It looks a pretty good piece of kit; shame it only comes in black & gold.....!
It you want I'll try to scan the review and mail it to you.....let me know.

Nothing wrong with the denon:) Only problem is getting one, if you can find one then thats fine. having said that, the Marantz SR4200 is just as good, and getting better reviews. And can be had for £250:)
hope that helps

I've had a Denon 1602 since Christmas and have been mightily impressed with it. DD and DTS are as good as I expected, and DPL2 is just fantastic for old videos and digitial TV - I real improvement from DPL.
I haven't noticed and sound dropouts on either DD or DTS and I watched a lot of DVDs. My only criticism is that it isn't particularly user friendly, and you do have to resort to the manual a few times at first, but once you've got it working its great.
I'd definately recommend it!

This is actually my article you are quoting and I have a Denon AVR 1602. I have to admit to being very impressed with it in the 1 month that I have had it. Apart from the problem in the article the amp has been relatively hassle free. I would recommend it but wait until Dolby have come up with a fix.
