I think they've been taking it down quite a lot as the demand outstrips supply by a fair bit.

The update a few days ago was something for Wireless adaptors. To download the SKY player, you need to download it from the dashboard. It seems to be available on some people'e machines but not on others.

It's working fine on mine in the Video Marketplace area.

Its working for me, found it in Video Marketplace and was the second tab for me.

Just checked and it's not there for me...

How are they deciding who gets it and who doesn't?

The Sky Player icon has been there for me since Tuesday (even though the service was down).

Nothing there for me either at the moment.

It's a bit of a joke isn't it?
Announce that it's launched, then when problems develop, withdraw it and say nothing?

mklion123

working for me also, although I did download the software on launch day so that might be why I can still use it?

I downloaded it today and it works fine, what a brilliant idea!

I checked on launch day at 11 and it was down.

For a few days later there was an apology message. Now nothing.

How many people have got it not on sky broadband?

I'm with Virgin Media.

Just tried this, but I can't get it to work either.. annoying as our upstairs freeview is broken and this would be a good replacement.

I got it and I am a Virgin Media customer.

It works fine for me if I start it via my download history, it vanished from the video marketplace.

Working pretty well so far, other than a few error popups earlier today that didn't actually stop it working. The only downside is the limit of 1 xbox.

"Following an unpredicted technical issue at launch on Tuesday, the Sky Player on Xbox 360 service was suspended.

We would like to apologise to those who have been unable to access the service but we can assure them that Sky Player engineers are working to resolve the problem."

Really looking forward to getting this working, might get an Elite for the bedroom.

I had it the other day, not checked this weekend.

Might use it to watch footy highlights if I've missed MotD/Football First, but the quality is very poor.

I'm a bit concerned this is costing me something actually, what is the pricing for a Sky HD customer with no multiroom? I just put my Sky ID in and it all worked, maybe should have read the T&Cs :suspect:

Joober
02-11-2009, 10:52
We don't have multiroom (but we do have the complete channel package) and everything comes up as being free. I'm loving being able to watch just about any film being shown on Sky whenever I want. Why cant the ordinary Sky be this good?!

You are supposed to have Multi-room OR Ultimate Broadband to get it for free.

02-11-2009, 11:40
I've got multi-room so free for me. Downloaded it on Saturday and I must say very, very impressed. All of the films on demand are amazing....with very little buffering and smooth playthrough.....I can see me using this A LOT. The live aspect of it though won't be as unfortunately my TV with the Xbox is also the same TV with my Sky HD box. But as an on demand service this is excellent!

I don't have broadband or multiroom but as i subscribe to the movies and sports channels I can watch any prerecorded stuff for free. great movie cateloge on there.

To watch any live tv need to pay for multi room but not sure its worth another £10 a month. when all i'd watch in my room is the movies!

jagox
02-11-2009, 12:04
You only need multiroom for the Live broadcasts, On Demand is free if you have the corresponding Sky Package. It's the same content that's available on the web based sky player using the same login/password.

Barnacle
02-11-2009, 12:06
For those of you who don't have multiroom, there's a one month free code at http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/skyplayer/ (you need to go through the wizard in the middle part of the screen).

It's not even appearing in my download history, even though i got it on day one and browsed through stuff (just didn't allow any access to media). A week on is getting a bit silly now

Had a play with this at the weekend, quite impressed, more with the on demand stuff than the live streaming stuff, can definitely see myself using this.

Finally got this working. I didn't think to check my download history via xbox.com. Working very nicely so far. I'm currently watching "Taken" and had no buffer problems or the like. Nice selection of movies to chose from. Shame there's no Discovery Channel on here though. I'll have a proper look through later.

Looks good although I noticed that some of the on demand stuff has be rented, is it stuff over 30 days?

Such a shame my O2 broadband makes things like this and iPlayer hardly usable at peak times :(

No movies on mine due to my pack not having movies but Sky News is flawless!!

EDIT : Again no subtitles options which is really bad again from MS!

Lost connection 20 minutes before the end of the second film I put on (Friday the 13th - incorrectly advertised by the way as being the 1980 one). It wouldn't reconnect until I downloaded the thing again from xbox.com. Why does it just disappear from the xbox entirely?

Got it working again, clicked resume, only it doesn't resume, it restarts the film and you have to forward all the way through. It could really do with a chapter skip, or at least let you skip forward a good 5 minutes or so each time.

Was a bit disappointed with the Sky One on demand section, was kind of hoping for a couple of series like Fringe etc, instead you get Ross Kemp and more Ross bloody Kemp...

03-11-2009, 14:40
ooh, went on my xbox an hour or two ago and it wasn't there - just gone back in and it is! :)

have downloaded... be interesting to see what it's like! :)

03-11-2009, 15:22
Well, I finally got chance to have a look last night. Ross Kemp, Noel Edmonds and some talent contest on Sky One, no Stargate, Lie to me or Fringe. The Movies on Demand only offer me to upgrade not pay per view.

I hope this is just that not all the content is on or else this is a monumental waste of time.

Agreed, just signed up for a gold account and activated the 1 month multi-room for this???? I have sky1 in my package, so no I don't fancy paying 98p to rent Justin Lee Collins goes bowling..... Am I monumentally missing something?

TigaSefi
03-11-2009, 17:20
Yeah you missing the point where Sky forces you to get the movie pack plus £5 a month multiroom. They can go **** themselves esp for not having subtitles.

Had a look, back to iPlayer on PS3 for me. Its nowhere near as good as the web based Sky Player.

Finally showed up on my sons xbox tonight for anyone who already has multi-room and the full package this is really a no brainer...

Enough live channels for him to watch in bed, but more importantly loads of films for him to watch when he wants, really impressed with it.

Sky normally kick their existing subscribers in the nuts, so to get something like this for free is great.

It's like getting another sky sub in the house.

I know you can use a pc but having it on the main tv is great.

TigaSefi
03-11-2009, 19:27
Ok huge huge problem when watching with mates on sky player = if they get a REALLY shoddy stream it means yours is constantly being interrupted to wait for the others to catch up!!!

How does someone who wants to download it get it now ? he can't find it on the video marketplace ?

Anyone use the parental controls?

Account DetailsBased on your selection below your parental control number (PIN) will be requested at download and play. For more information on the PIN settings please see Help.

Level at which PIN is requested OFF Cert U PG 12 7pm 15 9pm 18 10pm

I set it to 15 expecting it to only request the pin for stuff rated 15 and above...but he was getting a pin request to watch pirates of the Caribbean which is a 12...

Any clues?

What to the times mean as well?

On my normal Sky, I have to input a PIN for all movies 12 or over, regardless of the time of day. My parental controls are turned off.

When I called Customer Service they said that just the way it is.

Pain in the arse.

Thought the pin on the tv was only until a certain time...?

I checked the same channel on tv and wasn't asked for a pin.

I switched off the parental controls and he could watch it no problems...

Anyone know if the rental stuff is limited time only? I dunno why they're charging 98p to view certain programmes, especially to those who already have full sky packages. They can sod off.

Its just a rights issue - Sky Player on the PC has the exact same restrictions.

You can only watch the movies and sport if you subscribe to those channels. You also have to have multiroom if you want to watch stuff live. Also some of the older stuff you have to rent.

Hey all, sorry to bump this thread but I was wondering if anyone that has used the streaming sky player on xbox could answer a few questions for me. We have a sky subscription and are discussing getting an xbox with this tv stream maybe being the permission winner from the missus!

Is multiroom still required to get all channels? Net seems to think so, but a workmate said he was sure you didn't need it.

How does it run on slower broadband (~3.5mb/s)?

While I see that FX is nowhere to be found on the skyplayer, is there any OD ability to watch shows like NCIS or Trueblood?

Thanks in advance :)
