as you're probably aware, I'm a big sailor moon fan :D

as far as I'm aware there are currently 10 sailor moon dvds available

the three movies and the sailor moon S series (Sailor Moon heart collection 1-6) and the first disk of the sailor moon Super S series (sailor Moon pegasus collection)

however, I was searching dvd price check and it threw up piles of other sailor moon dvds...all of which were erm....very cheap (about 9 dollars or so) and as far as I could work out, they are the first ones of the original sailor moon series. Have you heard anything about these, cos i have a sneaky suspicion that they're the VHS tapes mislabled as VHS (although they did say they were preorder)

hmmmm, I've done a little more digging and the two releases are showing up on Animeondvd, but with no extra information than that.

However, I did find out they are being made by ADV Films (who I've never heard of) and a quick look at their site reveals that they do in fact own the rights to the first 82 episodes of Sailor Moon, which is

Sailor Moon
Sailor Moon R

While Pioneer own the rights to the next 80 or so

Sailor Moon S
Sailor Moon Super S

and ADV appear to have a selection of sailor moon VHS tapes out at the moment

has anybody heard of ADV films so I know a little more about what to expect...for example, am I likely to have an original japanese track?

Unfortunately I think I'll never see Sailor Moon Stars :(

It was never dubbed into english and never shown in the US

Funny thing was...another 2 turned up on dvdpricecheck which seemed to be the first 2 disks of the sailor moon Super S series but made by a Canadian manafacturer (again they were cheaper than the Pioneers)

hi saigon.

I'm not very knowledgeable on the Sailor Moon world, I can tell you straight away though that ADV are a huge anime distributor, and handle the likes of Evangelion, Bubblegum Crisis, Nadia, Gasaraki and a whole host more and are well respected.

From a little research, this is what I have found...

ADV own the rights to the first two seasons of Sailor Moon. They apparently have the rights to release it in both Sub and Dub formats BUT they are still trying to find decent source material for the original language versions, so for now are releasing it in Dub (using the DiC dub apparently which is also cut) format only.

Madman - Australian anime retailer who are very much in bed with ADV also have the rights to the first two seasons of Sailor Moon and will start releasing them this year, but again in Dub format only. At least they will be cheap compared to the R1.

Some useful links with this info...

LINK (http://www.animeondvd.com/license/5.htm) - AnimeonDVD License list - Sailor moon at top of page, including a link to an Expo announcement re: subbed version.

LINK (http://www.madman.com.au/madboard/Forum2/HTML/000289.html) & LINK (http://www.madman.com.au/madboard/Forum2/HTML/000417.html) - Madman (R4) forum threads with talk on ADV/Madmans release of Sailor Moon. Includes a link to a thread in AnimeonDVDs forums with similar info.

hmmmm, I've done a little more digging and the two releases are showing up on Animeondvd, but with no extra information than that.

These are most likely 'placeholders' for future reviews as the titles you're talking of look to be the 1st two discs from ADV of Sailor Moon Series 1....both are damn cheap, but they will be dub only. Released in April according to DVDPriceCheck.

hope that helps,,,and i've just increased my Sailor Moon 10fold :D

ADV is one of the biggest anime distributers in America.

I'm not really interested in sailor moon, but from what i remember, ADV picked up the rights after the previous distibuter lost them. I think that the stuff they're selling at the mo is just the dubbed/edited version, but they may do a subbed version in the future (really not sure about this though).

Edit: Looks like kanedaa beat me to it. Damned server busy messages :)

Cheers folks for the info

shame there will be no sub version on the disk and the DiC dub does suck a little bit, and it will be cut :( have genders changed etc.

but for about 6 quid a disk....I'm not complaining and will be snatching them up

Oh...Kanedaa, if you would like to see some sailor moon, I'll happily send you one of my disks....probably the sailor moon R movie which is the best example in my honest opinion, has a lovely japanese track, and is uncut (as long as you send it back) offers there if you want it

God i know.
It's strange but there is a lot of variety in Anime and everyone has their personal tastes.. What's really strange is when you end up liking two completely opposite genres.

Anyway you can't beat the little Chu-chu-chuuuuuuuuu :)
