Having spent quite a while reading various reviews and forum threads I'm getting thoroughly confused....

What I'm after is spending £500-700 on a new LCD (or plasma?) TV for the lounge. It'll be used for SkyHD and Xbox 360 (xbox performance being my major concern really).

I want a 37 or 40 inch set and am quite concerned about black levels as my four year old Toshiba LCD is somewhat poor (imo) in this regard.

Only other criteria is three HDMI inputs, but I think most sets have at least that these days.

So black levels and xbox 360 performance are my only real concerns, and SkyHD performance should be good on most TVs these days I guess.

Any quick suggestions would be appreciated so I can narrow down what I'm looking at!!

Thanks guys

xx

Should be able to get a 1080p 42" panasonic plasma for that price.

Best all rounder (by far) at that price.

That seems to be the general consensus... looks like that's what I gonna go for!

Hi Knapp, I'm in the same boat as you, was looking at the 40" Samsung LED back lit LCDs and came across the LG version the 37SL8000

http://www.lge.com/uk/tv-audio-video/televisions/LG-lcd-tv-37SL8000.jsp

it looks really good and am considering going this way, I have seen it online for just over £700 being LED back lit would give it excellent contrast.

there is a decent video review here.

Panasonic Plasma!!
If your budget allows you to get a 1080p telly then go for it, or you can save and get a HD ready one that'll still look amazing and you have money left over.

Girlfriend has decided she likes the 40" Samsung LED (because it's thin) - anyone got any experience of these??

Well, to be fair that's the basis on which you picked her...
