I have decided to get the marantz 6200 and am working on what speakers to get for that wondeful 6.1. The only thing is how do you install them and how do you know where to place the speakers and the subwoofer. Or is it possible to get someone elso to install and how much would you expect to pay for it.

What speakers is the million dollar question, so to help you we need budget, size of room, other equipment etc and you would need to demo the selection yourself to make sure.

As for 6.1 ideally you would want the TV in the middle with the centre just above or below it. Then the front speakers each side of it (though not too close) and angle (or toe) them slightly inward, so that their 'line of sound' crosses just in front of the listening spot. The distance that the speakers are apart should be between 1 and 1/2 the distance from them to the listening area.

The surrounds go inline with each speaker (left to right) and just behind the listening area, facing across so that their 'line of sound' crosses just behind the listening area.

The final speaker is the rear-centre which goes directly behind the listening area in line with the front centre and as far back as possible.

The sub can mostly go in the location easiest to put it in, as low frequencies are hard to pinpoint locationaly. The most common is usually to the left or right of the front speakers.

And to reaffirm the good advice from Just it would be preferable to keep the speakers at the same height as each other, slightly above your sitting position.

But also remember that there is no right or wrong way for speaker positioning. There is only a guide and the final position is down to you and some experimentation to get the right sound for you.
