out now in the US, end Nov in UK,. on 360/PS3 and PC

Seems to have okay reviews, gamerscore gives it 74% (and says most acheivements gettable in one 10 hour playthrough, which is nice)

65% of metacritic.

Seems to be a mix of condemned and puzzle solving.

a seperate storyline from the latest movie as well.

I'm in, anyone else?

I was going to pick this up to play through over the Halloween period, but it seems to have been pushed back to the middle of next month now. Think Ill either get it on rental or wait for a price drop as theres plenty of other stuff out at the same time Ill probably play over this

i just checked and i'd ordered it for £23.99 ages ago (360),w ad due out 16th oct then :D

i imagine it will be easy to pick up cheap post xmas, i'm going for the play and sell on quickly strategy, so a cheap purchase anyway.

Played about an hour of this so far and quite enjoying it. Condemned and puzzle solving within the theme of the Saw movies basicaly sum it up. I expected a bit of gore and you certainly do get that if you mess up a puzzel! Only bad points so far would be the combat system when you are one-on-one, it is a bit unresponsive at times but got to grips with it a bit better as I played some more...

Oh yeh, and it hands out achievements like candy. Pop-up-tastic in the first half hour! :D

Achievement spoiler:

I was struggling a bit with one of the puzzels and went onto the PC for a quick look at a guide, I never paused the game as i done my research and few minutes later heard another achievo pop up - '5g You've wasted your life'

double post..

fivebyfive
20-11-2009, 13:50
done the 1st chapter/case and already got 14 achievements worth 215

Not a bad little game, not worth full price, worth a rental, the combat system is poor. Had a little trouble with the last bit to save amanda as the game does not explain how it fully works, it explains the very basic things which any gamer would't need to know. After a bit of trial and error, got past it

No "easy" level but normal is easy so far

Oh wow, totally forgot about this being released. Expect it to be rubbish, but I can't get enough of the Saw franchise!

Quite fancy having a blast on this. Will wait and pick it up when it drops below £20

expect to die a lot as the game get annoying with trial and error gameplay, it does stop it being a great game

I'm about half way through this. Horrible game.

It's like an extended indoor section of Silent Hill. Combat is awful, puzzles are easy and uninspired, and it's all quite boring. Quite enjoyed it for the first half hour, before you realise that you've seen all it has to offer.

You get two levels: Normal and Insane - I'm flying through Insane without any problems so far.

I'd avoid a purchase at all costs - rent it if you must, that's what I did today, and after a few solid hours playing, I'm already fed up with it. Easy gamerscore though, if that floats your boat; cheevos popping up all over the shop.

my plan is (WHEN THE THING ARRIVES) is just to finish it quickly and sell it on - its £40 on most online stores so should get back the £23 argos pre-order price.

its hardly a replayable game.

doesn;t seem ANY point playing on insane as no achievements for doing that level.

Ohhh i want to play a game :D

fivebyfive
22-11-2009, 10:20
Case 5 and the puzzles are getting annoying as its trial and error and now they are lot more difficult.

I agree its getting very reptitive. It could of been great if the design team had more of a clue on what makes a better game.

I must say CJ that your played games list looks like a "Run like hell from this game" IGN special :)

cjanderson
22-11-2009, 16:43
haha, does it. I assume it looks like a gamerwhore special.

though whats wrong with Modern warfare 2 and fallout 3? think those are my last 2 played games :suspect: maybe CSI as well.

I like easy to play games. i like finishing games. I actually really enjoy CSI style games. what can i say, i am a girl :p

am hoping saw is there when i get home tomorrow, got a few days off to play it :)

22-11-2009, 17:50
completed it (full 1000gs), ready to be sent back to LF. Could of been great, Condemned meets silent hill but the devs screwed up, the more you play it the more annoying and gets very samey

Ratfink
22-11-2009, 23:54
I completed it too, on insane. Got 850 so far, and it looks easy to get the other 150 - just kills with different weapons. Whether I can be bothered or not is another thing.

Some of those puzzles did do my head in. I presume with insane you have less time before the big KABOOM.

cjanderson
24-11-2009, 11:56
haha, have started and got my first achievements just for failing to work out how to get out of the trap and died.

Its definatly a play in daylight game :suspect: i am tense already.

cjanderson
26-11-2009, 20:58
its quite tough :D taking me ages to get to the end of level 4.

apparently you can miss all of level 6 if you want :D

its daft that the best weapon is to just THUMP THUMP THUMP with no weapons. only achievement that may be hard is the stun bomb one, as how does that kill anyone?

i have also failed to stomp anyone yet!! will list for sale now so can get sold over weekend.

Ratfink
27-11-2009, 03:03
It's tough in places, certainly. What level you playing on CJ?

I ended up with something like 950 worth of cheevos after all, simply as I didn't bother using different weapons throughout the game. So close to the 1000, but as the weapons randomly spawn, finding the exact weapon I need for each extra cheevo was proving tedious. Back to blockbusters it went!

cjanderson
27-11-2009, 06:59
normal of course :D

the weapons are all where they are supposed to be according to the guide i am looking at.

perhaps i just take too long playing these things, the levels take ages as i don't know where i am going and wandera bit blindly (then fall off beams  ) so 2 hours for a level is about what i am doing, rather than breezing through it.

but its fun enough :D

27-11-2009, 13:39
Was looking to rent this game too but as I didn't do too well on Condemned :( I dont know if its my kind of game.

I dont mind the gorey bits but I'm a bit of a wuss left alone in the dark lol - is it like condemned in that way?

Like the idea of the puzzle bits though.

cjanderson
27-11-2009, 13:45
you got a nice flashlight that you can use throughout. I didn't find it very dark at all. there was a daft "do this blind" part but i gave up on that (trying to do it with a camera flashlight prooved very confusing)

and hurrah  my copy sold for £33 so i am up on the deal, just need to finish it this weekend :D

I used the combo lock on the door in chap 6 :D saved so much time as looked very samey

for the mines, you have knock their health down to critical and wait fore them to walk over it

the stomp ones are a pain as the controls are poor but do-able

cjanderson
28-11-2009, 13:11
cheers

well finished it now, skipped most of chapter 6, and OMG the jigsaw fight. USE YOUR ENVIROMENT - maybe trap him or use a trap on him or a good weapon. or stand and punch him repeatedly and he dies after 20 punches, he doesn't punch back

now i just have stun, 5 stomps and syringe and scissors to do. often i'd have that weapon, swap it for another one by mistake and then couldn't pick the first one back up.

was it all fun? well yes, i think so. def not the 3/10 that Games TM gave it, there is a lot to be said for a game that you can play in a week and get to the end. pipe puzzles i hated, circuits i enjoyed WHEN THE TIME LIMIT WASN'T DAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!

cjanderson
29-11-2009, 20:29
hm well gone back for a last clear up of achievements, and got the weapons ones, can;t get stun one now without replaying most of the game (as if you reload a level it loses all your items)

and i have managed 1 stomp out of 50 fights. and only 3 times where it was even an option, every time they just go down and die after a few fisticuffs. give up on it now.

so thats 40 points missing, booooooooooooooooooooo (stun mine and 5 stomps) it really shouldn't be THAT hard.

edit: and done. chapter 5 you can get the stun mine schematics and parts, then later on is a room where once you solve a circuit, a thug comes, i finally managed the remaining stomps and 1 stun mine death. hurrah, i would have been gutted to have sold it at 970 achievements

I got as far as when the game started to introduce trip wires then got scared and watched the game walkthrough videos instead. (I don't like sudden deaths, they should have done QTE events for the trip wires!).

Quite a interesting game I suppose, but

The whole game is ruined by the fact they didn't play the 'Hello Zepp' music during the ending(s)!!!

I picked this up for a tenner and it's one of the best tenners I've ever spent. I think it's a damn good tense game and the graphics are pretty good. It gets the atmosphere right and has a lot of similarities to Condemned. 8/10 so far for me :D

having gone into blockbuster to return harry potter 7a ( :gag: ) they had this and i thought it can't be worse than harry :D

(and reviews are 4/10 rather than 2/10.

its quite hard! and unpleasant (had to gouge my eye out as the first scene  ) but not too bad. i like puzzles and the combat in here is QTE rather than actual fighting.

will report back after some more play!

29-11-2010, 18:22
Played the demo of the 2nd game and thought it was worse than the 1st game.

cjanderson
29-11-2010, 18:40
it is taxing.

you often have situations where you have to work out what to do in 5 seconds or die. The fighting is hard (to me) though simple once i got the timing right.

the lockpick game is mad, i quite like the turning fuses around ones and cogs.

The balancing beam ones are as hellish as the last game. I have just come to a bit where i have to cross one AND THEN come back. I gave up for the day at that point.

I enjoy it when no tension. but not when i die and the reload screens are LONG.

Got a 30 day free trial with Lovefilm started (got to do something to catch you up on T.A. Catherine :D ) and Saw 1 is on the way. Will have a look back through the thread for some tips :)

This seems to have kept its value

Most places either dont have it in stock or are charging full/nearly full price for it

The cheapest I've seen is £16 for it at Tesco (I know Clarkyboy got it for a tenner but I havent seen it that price), and I know as soon as I pay that it'll drop in price

Liked the review I read of 2 which said it was along the lines of the worst game he'd played this year and it yet it still had its 'so bad its good' moments so he couldnt give it 1 out of 10

cjanderson
30-11-2010, 18:51
not read reviews, its not good though. too often you die and have to trek back abit.

one bit where you have to do a balance beam is then  :rage: when you then have to come back again over it 2 seconds later. took me ages!!!!! i often have zero idea what i am supposed to do to solve a puzzle.

MrSpeed
02-12-2010, 18:10
Started this today...pipe puzzles :brickwall

Despite an awful map and a few spikes in difficulty with the puzzles, I'm quite enjoying this :)

Are there any major differences between this and Saw 2, or is it more of the same?

cjanderson
02-12-2010, 20:27
i liked those puzzles. got stuck for a day on one enemy on number 2. FINALLY got past him and oh hey some balance beams. 3 in a row

thank god they had a checkpoint AFTER the enemy and before the balance beams. this may be one of the few games i give up on, as just too hard to get through. just due to dodgy controls mostly.

Think I'll give the sequel a miss. Enjoyed the first for a couple of hours but ended up hating it towards the end.

cjanderson
03-12-2010, 09:31
i am going to give the 2nd a good push today and if i manage to get up to level 6, extend the rental another week (as i have free rental tokens)

and then I AM PLAYING SOMETHING FUN!!!!!!!!!!

(managed the 3 balance beams in the end, you just need to be IN THE ZONE and not care about the result - oh and press forward on the left stic you use to steer, and then small corrections left/right, rather than Left stick in the centre postion and then big left/right movements)

cjanderson
10-12-2010, 18:52
well finally finished it, after getting stuck many times at many points. its very unforgiving :(

but got 750 out of it and its going back now!! i enjoyed the mini games.

sleep4ever
03-04-2011, 16:21
Gave up waiting for it to come down to a cheap enough price so rented it

In the hour playing it I had gained 150-175 achievement points, three in quick succession at one point

Controls arent the best, and I can see CJ's comment about the balance beams being a nightmare, combat is ****

Still...worth a go

combat in 1 was easier than 2. 2 was all Press X to defend and then A to attack (at the exact same time that the curser passes over that button)

enjoy whichever version you have - i found 1 more "FUN" than 2.
