Breakdown and A Simple Plan. Still no sign of these in R2 and as far as I'm aware Breakdown is still only non-anamorphic in Reg 1.
Why do some good films take so long to come out on DVD when you consider some of the ***** that gets released ?
I know studio politics can be very tedious. No one should fool themselves into thinking the studios actually exist in order to listen to what we say though.
Got Simple Plan on R1 and must say despite the bare bones nature of the disc is looks absolutely fantastic. Much underrated film and proof positive that Sam Raimi is no slash and burn film maker.
To be fair to the big studios though the time frame for R1 and R2 releases on the whole is narrowing considerably. My real gripe is as you say with a host of bare bones discs that would cost next to nothing to replicate for R2 yet studios simply can't be bothered
Some prime examples
Babette's Feast
Fearless (admittedly shocking R1 effort)
Cutter's Way
Cabaret
What's eating Gilbert Grape
Parallax View
Badlands
Jacob's Ladder
Exotica
Double Indemnity
Ulysses Gaze

Anyone know anything more about Breakdown R2? I can't find anything about it anywhere!

...Jacob's Ladder...
Nothing is listed on the box but Jacob's Ladder is a full blown Special Edition and one of the finest discs I own. 'The Antidote' is probably my favourite deleted scene on disc - stunning stuff.
Anyway, other than that you're quite right.

Now I could be wrong as I havent watch A simple plan in a while ( I have it on VHS petoooui ) but doesnt it have something to do with the BBC ? maybe they own the rights.
I will admit it shows how talented raimi is ..as if there was any doubt of that, but Bill paxton is so boring to watch, I wish billy bob thornton would have starred.
I prefer the gift as I prefer the more over the top style of raimi and that is his only reason example of this ( arguably ).
I caught A Simple Plan on Sky boxoffice a while back and was really impressed. Whats the R1 like btw ?

There a hundreds of good fims that don't seem to have recieved any DVD release at all. As Shaun666 said in his original post, it's even more irritating when you see some of the ****** that is released. Off the top of my head, some titles I'd like to be released include:
top secret!
my favourite year (peter o'toole)
into the night
hawks (timothy dalton)
silver streak
But maybe the studios are too busy releasing yet another edition of The Mummy and Men in Black
I think both "Top Secret" and "My Favourite Year" are due R1 releases this year (the latter with a commentary involving Peter O'Toole). 'Fraid I can't recall exactly where I saw the news item on "Top Secret", but "MFY" was announced on dvdfile:-
"Last but not least, we have the critically acclaimed My Favorite Year, presented in 1.85;1 anamorphic widescreen and English and French 2.0 surround, with an audio commentary by director Richard Benjamin and actor Peter O'Toole, an O'Toole filmography, and the trailer."
