I was messing around with my dads newly rented
R2: Toshiba 2d210EB

and was trying to get it to play multiregion just by playing with it.
I tried my CUBE R4, and it plays perfectly.
Its not Dual encoded disc and if I set my pc up to only play R2 it will not play this disc, and DVDGenie reports it is a R4 disc.
I tried other R4's like Matrix and Shawshank with no luck.
So the mystery is, why does the Cube play?
