Animated menus are the spawn of the devil. I want a menu that *selects options* not bombards me with animations every time I select an option. Bridget Jones R1 is my most hated for this, but American Pie 2 cheeses me off a fair bit.
i really like the Zoolander one.. not so much for the animated stuff (which is cool) but for the stuff he says to explain the options :D

gotta say my favourite animated menu is still Aliens: S.E
i also like the terminator 1 DVD menu.
Effective and simple ones are City of Angels and Romeo + Juliet.
off the top of my head...

I don't mind a bit of animation, like Ghostbusters,
but when you get them and they play the same clip from the film everytime you select something I get really ****** off with "this AGAIN!" thoughts. For example, Drive, great movie and great extras but navigation is a repetitive pain.

I like the Sev7n (R2) animation/menus.
The Spaced disc is quite good too........."skip to the end......." :)

Die Hard (5 Star) and Independence Day are the best of my lot, but Saving Private Ryan and Shawshank are also good in their simplicity and music.
It's becoming quite an art I think. Static menus are ancient history nowadays.

Yes, I know what you mean - the R3 of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon springs to mind.
I rather like the menus on my recently acquired Artificial Eye/Ruscico release of Andrei Rublev. It has lots of little hidden 'announcements' like trailers, interviews, featurettes dispersed about the various menus. And I like the short film clips instead of still photos for each chapter stop. Do other Ruscico releases have menus like this?
The T1 menu is pretty good, so is the R2 Highlander.
Have to agree with "Ghostbusters", probably my fave animated menu!
Others I like include "Jaws", "Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace" "Gladiator" and "Austin Powers the Spy Who Shagged me" (crap film though IMO).
It's up for debate as to the best, but one that springs to mind after watching them all recently are the Godfather DVD's - similar to SW:TPM in that they have a few background clips on random rotation, but they're just really cool!

I like T1 R2 best, don't like T1 R1, stupid computer voice and 4X3.

I like the more simple menus. On of my fav's at the moment is the menus for the discs on 'Unbreakable' the music along with the spoken lines from the film is simple but effective.
I like the static menus with the whole of the main theme on repeat. Like Papillon (R1).
For animated menus I think the Abyss SE are the best but only the first couple of times after that animated menus are just a pain, for static menus I like the SPRyan menu.

My personal favourites are:
T2:UE,
The Abyss,
Die Hard 5*,
Die Hard 2: SE &
Die Hard: WAV - SE
I hate long animated menu transitions, really don't see the point X-men is guilty of this.
I was particuly impressed with Akira R1 menu transitions short and sweet, but very cool!
Planet Of The Apes and T2:UE
There are so many good ones:
T2:UE, Unbreakable, Jaws, Purple Storm, etc
I quite like them the first time around, but it does start to annoy me when I go back to them and just want to go straight to the menu options rather than see all the anims.
Can't see it changing in a hurry though :)
Withnial and I is the best for me; stylish, not too repetative and seamless.
Although the Groundhog Day menu cracked me up the first time I saw it....

Both the Terminator and Alien DVDs have nice menus
The Austin Powers 2 one was mildly amusing the first time, but just generally gets annoying. The Memento one was confusing from the start :)

Tron 20th Anniversary Collectors Edition R1 - The menus match the in-movie CGI perfectly, and complement the film very nicely.

Gotta agreed with quite a few of the above - the R1 Die Hard Trilogy menus are great, as is the Tron SE.
Suprised no-one has mentioned Shrek yet -'Pick me, pick me!':)
Also love the R2 Sleepy Hollow, and the Page Which Does Nothing on Being John Malkovich.
