3 feet away from TV is a good guideline.

When I had my Mission 702es I had them 6" away from My Sony Wega and they did not cause a problem. Man in Sony Centre said that they could put speakers quite close.
Best experiment but watch out for the dreaded green tinge, Ideally you don't want them too close as the sound stage will be poor as well!

like the post above -i have my TDL RTL3s about 6-8 inches either side of the tv with no problem at all - the wider apart they are the better sound stage tho :)

My non-shielded speakers are approx 8 inches from my Sony Wega with no problems at all. If your screen tinges green, degauss the TV (check the manual, on the Sony its just turning the power off at the wall and turning on again), it may not return.

Not true - u have them to far appart you get a 'hole' in between in the sound - toeing them in doesnt help that much either.

You should always be further away from the speakers than they are to each other.

If you sit 5m from the speakers they should be less tham 5m apart.

The usual rule of thumb for a stereo pair is 6 - 10 feet apart. With a centre (and therefore used for HC), you can increase the maximum distance by a couple of feet or so.
