I should be getting it soon, but for now i'd put money on it being identical in all but 'included Trailers' as the R1/R4 versions.

as for the film, i don't really know :D

i bought this for my mates birthday on friday and we watched it on saturday night.

It's got japanese 5.1 (i think) and english 5.1 language options.

Not actually sure about the subtitles (ie dubtitles or proper translation) as we watched the english dub  (sacriligeous i know but we were a bit drunk :D )

Picture is widescreen but i think it is non-anamorphic (i have a 4:3 tv so im not sure)

Overall my mate and i enjoyed the film there, it was a bit complicated at times but i suspect that the booze was to blame for that :)

X is a love/hate affair. You either love it or hate it ( iremember those years ago when everyone eagerly anticipated it on the fansub circuit)
Personally i like it as it's quite a tragedy, however it is a complete hacked version of a longish manga series. The characters aren't fleshed out as well as they could be (no suprise really).

There is a anime series out in JPN at the moment that is closer to the Manga and longer to (25 episodes?)

If you haven't read any of the manga you'll probably enjoy it more than if you did. Good action leading to the....... :D

Yes, the anime series is one TV-length OVA ep that serves as basically a preview of the TV series, and the series itself is 24 episodes.

The anime, unsurprisingly, follows the basic story of the manga fairly closely. There are some differences in how it's told, but it's pretty similar. It does however diverge from the manga around ep 15 (apparently, I'm not that far into the manga yet), but IMO the quality of the TV series doesn't drop at that point. The format of the TV series works well in that it allows the characters to all be fleshed out pretty well, even the "secondary" characters, which is nice as it's not something that happens all that often in anime.

Anyway, I'd wholeheartedly recommend the TV series - it made me a die-hard X fan :D It'll never see the light of day in UK R2, but it has been licensed in the US (we just don't know by who yet), so it'll probably be announced at one of the major cons this summer, and likely released on R1 DVD towards the end of the year. I'd recommend it. The manga is excellent too, and if you love a good story I'd recommend it highly.

I admit to having not seen the film yet (and I won't until I've seen the end of the TV series), but I do intend to buy it. So that probably makes my post a little off-topic, but I take any chance I can get to rave about the TV series ;)

Half way through the tv series at the moment and it really does make the movie a bit of a travesty :D. The general story is there but the characters aren't fleshed out. The movie still had an impact on me when i first watched it though and the X series in general has always been a personal fave along with some of the other greats (IMO)

What is going to be odd though is that the manga series hasn't finished yet (suprise surprise) so it's going to be interesting to see how it ends (possibly like the movie).

I would definitely say though to any *semi-hardcore anime buff NOT to watch the movie if you intend to watch the tv series, whenever it should come out. You'll spoil the story and it is a bit of a let down if compared to the tv/manga.

I'll stop diverging now.

tv series regular, not one of movies

Yeah (somtimes I wish they'd just wait till the manga was finished!). At first since it followed the manga closely I thought that, like many other shows, it'd just stop at the end with the possibility of the second season. But since I've been told it diverges from ep 15 I'm thinking they'll probably end it themselves (I'm up to ep 19 and it does seem like that may be the way they're going).

Personally I'm not fussed, since I'm reading the manga too. But that's why I haven't seen the movie yet, I don't want to possibly ruin the ending for myself (if the TV series goes the same route).

I'll stop diverging now.

Me too! :D
