really need a sat nav for UK and USA travel but ideally i'm looking around the £100 mark. i'm not to bothered if its new/ refurb/ used etc. at this point i'm just trying to find out what options i have.

seen a TomTom XL One with Europe maps and USA/ Canada on a 2gb card for £90 but i'm assuming this is refurb and the seller has yet to respond to emails so i'm just searching for other alternatives,

any help/ guidance is gratefully received

Retail wise £100 is pretty low. www.totalpda.co.uk have a bunch of refurbished TomTom units from £70 inc VAT but they have UK maps. You'd then need to spend £50 on the USA/Canada maps directly from TomTom (assuming there is enough room on the memory card or internal memory - USA/Canada requires over 800meg free space). So that'd be £120-130 depending upon needing a memory card or going for a unit with more memory.

thanks for that.

i'm looking at

http://www.totalpda.co.uk/TomTom/TomTom-XL-v2-UK-Maps.7810.html

and then planning to load on the USA maps having downloaded them from TOMTOM, question is, does it have enough internal memory? I could just download the southeast region of the USa maps which is only 350mb but im not sure if the memory is even that size and the tomtom website doesn't confirm it either way :?:

This (http://www.afterdawn.com/hardware/product_details.cfm/7177/tomtom_xl) site states that there is 1.1gb of internal memory - not sure if that is total or free - either way it should be fine for the full US/Canada maps if that's what you're after.

You can backup the contents of the internal flash to your PC then delete the GB map and copy over the US map if space is limited.

I would suggest emailing TotalPDA - I think they are pretty good at customer service.

EDIT: This table (http://www.opentom.org/Hardware_Variants) also has the XL at aroung 1gb.
