Its back in a poorly written and at times confusing opener.
So God is now a player moving the boys out of reach of Lucifer and bring back Castiel, so maybe the Winchesters+Bobby v Angels and Demons wont be such a one sided show afterall ;)
Nice performance by the woman playing Satan and the host (Mark Pellegrino).
Is Rachel Miner going to play Meg
all season?
LOL at the writers taking another poke at the Wincest fandom sickos'
Good to have the Winchester boys back  Loved it :D
It was a reasonable opener, but they usually open with a bang, so i'm a little disappointed.
Let's hope they don't play the "God" card too often this season, anytime they get in BIG trouble, oooooh let God teleport them out of danger.:|
Plus good to see the brothers being as dumb as ever. They go through the pain of having their ribs etched to make them invisible from Angels/Demons, then two minutes later they go visit Bobby in the hospital, the first place their enemies would look for them .... like Duhhhhh!

Well to be fair everything is a little confused at the moment. Lucifer has just broken free after all, and given the sympathetic way he's supposed to be portrayed we still don't know how Meg et al relate to him at all. Plus we don't actually know that any Demons ARE looking for Sam and Dean (Apart from that one, but again we don't know her role).
On that note we've seen that the Angels are, by and large, dicks. Does this mean we're going to get Demons that are somewhat 'good' (Or at least less evil).
Though yes there were some poorly written parts (Dean had one too many 'son of a bitch's' this ep). I thought there was a nice contrast on how Zachariah tried convincing Dean to let Michael use him and how Lucifer convinced the guy into letting him use his body.
They've already said they're trying to make the Devil sympathetic (Hence the title) and this episode goes some way towards that.
In a lot of ways though this episode felt like a 'Part 2' to last Seasons closer than a Season opener.

Fun opener. Was a bit worried this season might be a bit too doom and gloom with all that's gone on but I found myself laughing at a lot the one liners.
For some reason though the pilot's line, "And if you look out your left window you might like to HOLY CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!!!!" really cracked me.
Also enjoyed Cass turning up and kicking some arse and thought Bobby was a goner again for sure (coz it's not like Jim Beaver has a good track record of surviving in his TV series'). Thought the devil's haunting of Jacob was quite effective too.
Just to confirm though, is Meg the short blond haired demon from the first season? Can't remember when she last turned up though...

Loved it and good to see the show back.
Think the guy was too easily convinced to become Lucifers vessel, I mean surely most people (regardless of circumstance) would not think hmmm....do I want to hand my body over to the Devil....ok then, why not!

i love this show and im sl glad its back, liked the first ep.
Are we sure its god intervention though ? could easily be a division
as someone mentioned nice contrast on how the angels and sam tried to get there respective vessels into giving there bodies up.
DrVenkman
15-09-2009, 18:49
Seeing as Meg vacates her vessel incredibly quick that's all we've seen of Rachel Miner surely? We've never seen them repossess a body have we? Well apart from Castiel though that was a tad different.
I have a feeling that Lucifer is going to want to use Dean as his Vessel as well. I imagine he's a powerful weapon to whatever side wants to use him.

Another good episode. Why I didn't make the connection between War (What is it good for) and the episode title right away I don't know.
There's some niggling things that I have a feeling will probably be addressed anyway, such as what happens to 'War' now. Obviously they can't kill it because well War never dies. But what about the magic ring?
I liked the seperation at the end. One thing the show does well is the Brothers relationship, and honestly things would be a lot more harder to take if everything was fine between Dean and Sam. Of course they'll get back together in a few episodes time, but the show does a good job of conveying that they're never going to have the same relationship they had in the earlier Season's.
Good to see Rufus as well...even though he knows what he did.

Ya, good ep. A bit similar to the S2 ep Croatan but still enjoyable.
That old demon hunter was Mr X from the X Files wasnt he?
I remember the ep where him & Skinner had the mother of all fights in that show.
That old demon hunter was Mr X from the X Files wasnt he?
Yup - Dean said at one point something like "This ain't the X-files boy" - which was probably a reference to Mr X.

Bobby is on the phone.
BOBBY: Suck dirt and Die Rufus!

BOBBY: He knows what he did!
It's just this little comic bit where we never know what Rufus did.
There are two things I know for certain. One, Bert and Ernie are gay

Caught up with season 4 with two eps a day and that rocked.
Not sure with the quality of the first two eps of Season five, have they run out of places to go now that Lucifer is out of the cage? We're obviously going to have the other three of the horsemen turn up, but is the end of this (final?) season Lucifer vs Dean (as St Michael). Glad Cass is still about and that Bobby isn't automatically healed.
Ain't going to stop watching though.

Great stuff. Very 28th Days Lateresque at the start.
Due to the apocalyptic nature of this season, I feared there'd be no comedy episodes this season.... BUT i've learned that a future episode will have...
Sam & Dean trapped in a US sitcom world, with added laughter-track!

I found the montage strange in that it normally signals a break in the season. I was worried it was going off air already for a moment, but no, thankfully it's on as normal next week.

they were not. do some searching online :nono: all started with the leads saying they had 6 year contracts with the CW. 2 + 2 became 9. SHow creator always said 5 year arc, however if the execs wanted a 6th season then a new chapter would be possible but he would prefer to end it after 5.

I actually thought the Irish guy's accent was fine. Which goes to show I'm somewhat ignorant when it comes to Irish accents. Mind you it was certainly better than the ones on 'Heroes' or 'Burn Notice' (Though at least a jokes was made about the latter).
What I did like is that it shows the villain of the week doesn't really have to be a Villain or killed in a cool way at the end. He wasn't really even a villain at all when you think about it. It would be cool if they bring him back somehow, but it's nice that the show paints a Supernatural world outside of the show that doesn't fall into 'Good' or 'Evil'.

Actually I'm really glad the ratings aren't improved. Eric Kripke kept talking about how he wanted to end it at Season 5, but recently CW execs have been saying how the show can continue if they want it to. If the ratings are low enough then they'll end at Season 5 when the creator wants.

While there's a lot of ground to cover in the final half of the Season, there's also only one real storyline to tell. Luckily it's not like other shows where there's subplots etc that need tying up, everything is directly related to what's happening now.
I have no doubt that the show will have a bittersweet ending, with Sam and Dean just hitting the road and doing their thing, but I hope we don't see any further adventures. The story they're telling is kind of perfect, it would be a shame to spoil it by having a different big bad guy...unless it's God, in which case that would be AWESOME.

If it is renewed I do hope they dont drag the current arc into any new season.
I wouldn't be against another season as I love the show but if it's just going to turn into "Supernatural : Deans Demon Hunting School" then I'd rather see it end.
Having them deal with however the apocolypse ends and try to carry on would be interesting to watch so long as it's not just a cash in.

I hope that Supernatural as a whole (sixth season or not) goes out on a high. I'd hate to see a disappointing tacked-on season, done purely for monetary reasons, for a series that has gone from stength to strength over it's time.
It's hard to think how the creators can top battling Lucifer and stopping the Apocalypse for the main arc of a season. I'm sure there'll always be new monsters and threats but it'll be a shame if they revert to the 'Monster of The Week' antics that made up it's earlier seasons.
Still, if it's done well, I'll definitely be watching.
Glad to have it back & for me that was the best standalone episode for a long time. The comedy of the first half was sharp, then their descend into madness during the second-half was equally well done.
Judging by the blurb for next week's, we've got another comedy episode. Yes, they are usually very funny, but there's this little thing called an Apocalypse happening!!!!
Another great "funny" episode, really enjoyed it. But the apocolypse is getting close so lets hope we're going to be moving into that plot pretty soon.
The promo for next week looks interesting, especially with
The return of Anna going after young John and Mary Winchester to stop the coming apocolypse.

The only way I can see a Season 6 working is if they do what they do at the end of Season 5 but then there's a massive fallout they have to deal with. It's not as if Season 6 can start with an all new 'Big Bad' or just consist of standalone episodes, otherwise that would be the worlds longest epilogue.
Anna, refresh my meories
She was the angel Dean and Sam found in the asylum who the other angels were trying to kill for rebellion. Last we saw here Castiel was having her lead away by two other angels to somewhere...

Liked the new episode a lot. Some great humour and they did what they've done so well in the past and managed to make it go dark at the end without it jarring at all. Hopefully they'll get back to the arc now though, seems like we've been in standalone mode a lot this season.

You can't have a guest star in too many eps or there's some kinda rule that makes it so they gotta be in opening credits or something like that... not that supernatural has any opening credits but still they'd get a star billing :P

Yes! I mean bugger! Great show, sad to see it go obviously, but like others here I don't want it to overstay it's welcome and I like that it was going to have a complete arc with a proper finale. Does this mean things may not be resolved this season now? Is that why the story arc hasn't moved on much lately? On the other hand, if they do wrap it up how will they top the brothers beating the devil?

Great news, love Supernatural and it maintains a high quality on all the episodes so more the better.
Hmmm, mixed emotions regarding a sixth season, not helped with the news that showrunner, Eric Kripke is stepping down & will now only be an exec. producer.
Also not helped when they say things like, "X-Files ran for more seasons than originally planned....". Yes, that's true & we all know how well that turned out. :|

Well, I'll wait and see how it pans out. Mixed emotions about this myself too, I won't write it off out-of-hand, but Kripke taking a backseat isn't the best of signs.
Can't help but think the new series will just turn into a monster-of-the-week show with no overall plot to it at all. Unless they try and dream up something to get their dad back from hell and this is the plot going forward.
on a side note I can't believe we've gotta wait until 25th March for the next episode according to TVRage

Latest episode was pretty good (99 Problems). Cas had a great answerphone message.
The only thing that irked me is that we've never really seen that woman and her kid get mentioned apart from the episode she was in, so that seemed just a tad forced.
Not caught right up with S5 yet, but just watched the trickster episode(8ish i think) with all the TV episodes and LMAO . The CSI one was particularly awesome.
the last one was great. luciferjacob owned!
shame about gabe :(
Yeah, this week's was back on form after a string of disappointing episodes. Good to see Lucifer finally let loose & become a proper threat.
Very good ep, though it was a tad confusing with the advert for the Ghostfacers in the middle and then the porn video at the end (not that I'm complaining).

Mark Pellagrino continues to impress as Lucifer. He goes from out and out killing machine to suddenly becoming sympathetic in the space of a scene. Again it's a nice touch from the show to just not make Lucifer out and out evil. I don't think anyone can be in doubt as to the fact he genuinely felt emotion at the end there.
Still, seems we got a bit of drive for the last run of eps - 3 left! - then we'll see what Season 6 brings. Though according to the new showrunner it'll be a lot more intimate. So I'm guessing there will be just MOTW episodes. Still, if it's rubbish we can still just pretend the show ended with Season 5.

great ending, some really powerful moments between samifer and dean. Ironically the ending was slightly reminiscent of a recent, and universally hated Doctor Who episode, which goes to show the Americans just do TV better.
I wonder if the ending would have been quite the same, had they not commissioned season 6. I certainly think there would have been a lot more permadeath.

so, chuck = god then?
hmm that wasn't what i gleamed from it, but it's an interesting theory. I just thought his work was done, but did think it was a bit weird what happened.
tptb did apparently say we'd see god by the end of this series and considering chuck told the brothers where the 'battle' would start even though the angels were keeping things quiet seems odd
I thought the same, since Chuck was supposed to be human, there would be no reason for him to just disappear, if his job was done, dont the prophets just stop hearing the voices? Overall i thought it was done well and could have actually ended the series nicely if they didnt plan on a 6th season. Be interesting to see what they do now.
DrVenkman
14-05-2010, 19:43
I didn't buy into the Chuck as God thing, though I can see a case for it. I just assumed that Chuck told the story he was supposed to tell, and that once he told the Gospel of the Winchester's he was done (Remember this was supposed to the she series finale rather than the Season finale).
Though this Season has been a little scattershot at times I think they pretty much nailed the ending. The show has always been about the Brothers, so it makes sense they use this little intimate ending to cap off the show.
To me it seems the only change was the final shot, I imagine that when it was originally written we just had Dean sitting down for Dinner. I am curious about Sam at the end though, is Lucifer still inside him? Which would mean that Season 6 would be about getting the Devil out of Sam.
marc_angelus
15-05-2010, 09:00
God would have the power to bring Sam back, so the ending might be showing the decision Sam has to make. Either walk away and leave Dean to his apple pie life, but thinking Sam was trapped in hell, or go to him, and inevitably drag him away from his new family.

I thought it was a really good ending as well. It could easily have been total cop out/deus ex machine and badly written, but by keeping it intimate they really nailed it. I'll also buy Chuck as God, think that would go well. More than a little interested to see how exactly they carry it on now.
marc_angelus
16-05-2010, 13:08
I don't think they should have brought back Bobby and Casdiel though, death is much more hard hitting when it lasts more than a minute. Especially Cas' death, man that was an OMG moment! Charmed had the same sort of cop out ending as well, where all the sisters except one died, and then they managed to go back in time..
I do think however, they wouldn't have done this (in supernatural) if that was actually the series finale. They know having those characters available for season 6 will be a good thing, Cas especially, he is hilarious!

It is going to bother me now that whatever ending they come up with in the next season won't match if they'd left Cas and Bobby dead, Sam in the cage and Dean with a life. A decent, proper, bittersweet ending with true sacrifice, instead of copoutsville.
marc_angelus
17-05-2010, 17:55
Regardless of how much i love the show, it is a bit annoying that they can just kill any character and then have them right as rain again a few minutes later because "god did it". Sam, Dean, Cas (multiple times) and even Bobby (by proxy) have all inexplicably come back from death by God's hand. Even Cas healing Dean's face seemed a bit of a copout to me, he's suffered worse and recovered without needing a makeover from an angel.
as sloppy storytelling, it's almost as bad as Lana/Lois getting knocked out every time Clark needs to use his superpowers on Smallville..

Do as I do with 'Millennium' and just ignore the next Season if that's the case.
For the record I do think that bringing Bobby and Cas back was part of the plan all along. It makes a point of mentioning that Bobby and Dean don't see each other for a long time, and I don't think that Chuck just meant a couple of months. It would be weird to bring Bobby back from the dead and mention that Dean doesn't see him for years if they were going to go ahead and use him next Season.
We won't know for certain until Kripke talks about it but I get the feeling it was just the end with Sam that was a late edition to the shoot.

And how do you have a S6 after facing down the apocalypse? Or was it Lucifer we saw looking on at Deans happy family and we get to do it all over again?
A good, solid, dark final episode, let down with the "OMG we got another season to write" reset-button utilised in the final few minutes. :|
Overall a reasonable season, that started well, faded badly during the last-third & got a little better towards the end.
The CW network has released this description for what to expect in S6....
"Season six will be a season of mystery and shadow. Heaven and Hell have been left in complete disarray since the apocalyptic events of season five. And now, monsters, angels and demons roam across a lawless and chaotic landscape. And so Dean Winchester, who has retired from hunting and sworn never to return, finds himself being pulled back into his old life – pulled back by none other than Sam Winchester, who has escaped from Hell. The two reunite to beat back the rising tide of creatures and demon-spawn, but they quickly realize that neither are who they used to be, their relationship isn’t what it used to be, and that nothing is what it seems."
The show is also being moved to Friday evenings (graveyard where US tv-shows go to die), to re-team up with Smallville.

With the CW upfront they've released a tiny synopsis of the season. Basically Heaven and Hell are in chaos, Sam gets Dean into hunting again. To be fair if you asked 100 people what happens next Season, 99 of them would come up with that premise.
I hope that if that's the case it feels like a natural continuation of this Season. It would feel incredibly cheap if it's literally a week later and Dean gets back to hunting. If I were doing it I would show Dean as a regular worker somewhere, trying to maintain a family life while ignoring 'signs' of the Supernatural around him. Sort of like 'The Incredibles'. It might not make for the best drama but it will seem cheap if Dean just jumps right back in.

that sounds good. I think you could add to that by showing him struggling with home life. Flying off the handle at the kid cos he broke the salt line that Dean is obsessed with maintaining, the kid himself embarrassed to bring friends round because of his 'crazy dad', the mum feeling smothered by Dean's over protectiveness, not letting her go anywhere alone, beginning to see signs of the supernatural where perhaps there aren't any..
Blimey! ... Who say this coming?
Madhouse, the acclaimed anime studio behind Death Note, Paprika and segments of Batman: Gotham Knight, is producing 22 episodes that cover the first two seasons of the live-action CW series: “The anime project will not only remake the best episodes from the live-action version, but also depict original episodes not seen in the live-action version. Those original episodes will include prologues of the Winchester brothers’ childhood, anime-only enemies, and episodes featuring secondary characters from the live-action version.”
The series will be released on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan in three volumes beginning Jan. 12, 2011.

Finally some great TV to binge on!
Just watched series 5 on Blu-Ray over a 3-week period (a great way to watch TV series by the way - maybe a good few months behind, but no adverts and little time between episodes).
Another good series for what is consistently the most entertaining show on TV (or Blu-Ray etc.) Seems like the end of the current story cycle and from what I've read (trying to avoid spoliers) it's taken a new direction with series 6?
marc_angelus

i wouldn't really say it's taken a new direction, it's had a couple of mini arcs rather than one overall season arc but it's still the same old Supernatural. Season 5 was meant to be the series finale but the network decided to keep it going.
