I really enjoyed AO2 in coop so this will be a must buy for me, some nice humour that appealed to me too.

I'm gutted they didn't call it Army of Two Two.
Looking forward to this! Loved the original and completed it 3 times in all (once solo and twice co-op). Hopefully they'll make the gun noises more varied and realistic than the weak plip plips of the original.

surprised this thread is not longer as its out next month
Quite enjoyed the 1st game (been replaying the DLC content as never got round to playing it fully, not great why is maybe why it was free) it was Gears copy but still enjoyable although the AI for the 2nd character was awful, it was impossible to complete it on normal on hard with the AI. I really hope its been fixed
Background & Story
Tyson Rios and Elliot Salem begin Army of Two: The 40th Day a few years after the story of the original game ends as self-employed private military contractors who run, with the aid of Alice Murray, their own private company called TransWorld Operations (TWO). They are engaged in a routine mission in Shanghai when things go very bad. A competing PMC attacks the city, causing mayhem and destruction and threatening Rios and Salem’s survival. As executive producer Reid Schneider explains, “It's really more of a survival story, and about what happens to you when you're there. Salem and Rios are on a routine mission in Shanghai and all hell breaks loose. We want to tell a story about what happens while you're there." The idea is compared to the movie Cloverfield, where a series of events (disasters) occur and the characters must then overcome them. Amidst their efforts to survive, Rios and Salem will also have the opportunity to take up missions in order to earn money.

The first one wasn't as good as I hoped, but I'll probably give this one a go.

I played through on the hardest difficulty level with the AI and completed it even got the kill Dalton within X secs achievement and the kill him with a pimped pistol shot to the head, its the sort of game to me which encouraged cheap stuff so I happily exploited it and just let the AI do its own thing.
Last I saw of this there was alot of controversy regarding one of the game modes being an exclusive to preorders, it unlocks for everyone else after 30 days supposedly.
They missed a trick with that too....like Mr Majestik said as well as calling this army of two 2 they should also have had the preorder content unlocking after the 40th day not the 30th. ;)

I found if you let the AI do its own thing, it dies. Also it has trouble healing you under fire
got the achievement today for killing Dalton with the "pimped" handgun
edit: demo this week
According to EA's latest monthly newsletter, Army of Two: The 40th Day is set to get a demo next week, landing on December 17th.
As you can see below there isn't much in terms of detail but I think it's safe to assume that it would be a co-op demo... you know, cause it's a co-op game.

Of all strategies the one which I found worked best was simply to rush him and unload clips into his head from point blank range with your most powerful guns. Taking him down from the walkways is the time consuming part, rush past everyone else though when hes on the deck and with a little luck if you get to him without dying you'll take him down quick enough.

Ah I see. Nice. Well I still have the game so I might try it one day.
Yeah everyone else was suggesting teaming up with another player over Live and sniping him but thats far too much faffing around imo.
I sold my copy on after picking up all the single player achievements, liked the concept/characters but something about the game mechanics fealt cheap to me. With any game involving guns the actual guns themselves should be satisfying imo.....with the first game at times I fealt like I was unloading clips from a nerf gun into rubber men compared to something like Gears where the guns are just spot on.
If I remember correctly I did Dalton co-op both of us using rocket launchers to drop him down from the top ledge quickly then both using fully pimped AK47's to kill him.
Getting the final head shot with the pistol was also tricky but satisfying!

The co-op demo is up for Gold members and it's around 2 GB.
Xbox LIVE Marketplace | Army of TWO: TFD (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802454108d8/?p=1&of=0&bt=0&sb=1)
Tryed the demo earlier on the PS3, is it just me or is it hell of a glitchy. Had a level trigger fail to work on a level meaning me and my online co-op buddy were stuck, then we walked through a steel door like we were ghosts, then the game was stuck on the loading screen for 5 minutes after quitting back to main menu, then when I quit the game it fully restarted my console with 3 beeps.
Like the feel of the game alot more this time though and some of the new stuff, im presuming the choppiness, stop/start nature of the demo is because its an early tutorial level.
They took the pimped weapons thing even further this time.......diamond encrusted grenades.
Got as far the lift which appeared to go on forever, got bored and ended up trying to kill each other before finally quiting.
I didn't manage to finish a game online in co-op mode in around 15-20 games, everyone kept quitting as well!!!
In the lift I think both players have to customise their loadout for the game to proceed, what I've noticed though is it doesn't always prompt you to do so. Im liking it but the demo just seems so sloppy.
Not impressed with the demo.
Certainly doesn't feel like a huge leap from the first, in that it looks purdy, but the mechanics are clumsy. "You automatically take cover when standing next to walls" - err, no you don't. Can't stand the flick camera from left to right and vice versa feature - can't they create an intelligent auto-cam like most games? The whole 'waiting for partner' while they spend ages pimping their weapons, leaving you staring at a blank screen is tedious to the extreme. Demo had some big glitches too, and froze both my teammate & I's 360s.
Like others have said, it feels way too sloppy.

I was forced to play the first one all the way through on co-op. Awful game. Clunky is an understatement. It was like driving a 30 year old volvo with a broken gearbox.
This one sounds just as bad.

The demo is *****.
I loved the first game and played through it twice with a mate.
Based on the demo it's more of the same with some interesting new features and improvements. I played through the demo twice yesterday because I encountered a bug which kicked me out of the game only to discover we were just a few seconds away from completing the demo.
I did really enjoy the demo though. Hostage taking and the fake surrender feature seem like a lot of fun. I'm also very curious about the morality system and what sort of impact it'll have on the game.
From what I've seen so far it's probably going to be just as enjoyable as the first game and loads of fun in coöp with a friend.
Only tried the demo split screen so far and of course it was too small to enjoy fully. The first game was very stop start initially as it trained all the moves but once the missions started properly the gunplay flowed nicely.
Not 100% happy with the gun customisation screens, complicated and fiddly. Wish they'd let each player customise at the same time too like Resi 5.
Still looking forward to it though because it remains one of the few genuine co-op games and isn't just a tacked on co-op mode.
Yeah, I'll pick it up too probably when its £18 quid though as some genuinely good games have hit that price within a month of release so no point in spending £30 imo. I've still not managed to finish the demo on co-op, everyone seems to keep quitting out.
One thing I did think was slightly poor about the demo.....in the likes of Splinter Cell and the latest Hitman when your wandering through non combat areas there are NPCs just going about there business in this when you start the game your wandering through that alley and you can see stalls, a running moped, lights on in windows, doors open and hear the hussle and bussle of a busy street but its empty.
Not game breaking or anything and im perhaps just being picky but hmmmm. :)

very poor demo, they should of let you play it single player, other people keep dropping out in public co-op
was only going to be a rental anyway

Had a go this afternoon with a mate who owns the original game. Quite enjoyable co-op stuff. I had a little trouble getting used to the cover because I've been playing games with the sticky sort where you have to lean out.
Like many have said, I doubt I'd fork out £30 notes for it but I'd certainly give it a go wants it's dropped a bit.
Review now posted over on Eurogamer. Only scores a 7. :|
I didn't play the first game so probably won't buy this one either. But I like the sense of humour in it. There was some footage on Playr at the weekend I think and the conversation about the panda made me laugh.

Given how bad the demo was that's better than i thought, put it in the 'When it drops below £18 pile" for me.

7 is not a bad score, a 7 does not mean its **** (can't find what the review scores actually mean) but roughly means good with some minor flaws
the demo was poor (as it tutorial with a lot of start and stop) but it seems to be more of the same but improvments
Gave this a quick spin last night on single-player, just to get through the tutorial stuff at the beginning. Your partner AI seems to behave reasonably well & I enjoyed what I played. The level layouts are much more varied than the first game, makes it feel satisfying when you get your partner to Aggro, find a nice strategic spot on the map & easily headshot numerous, unaware bad-guys. :D
My only grumble is the weapon upgrading. The textures are just nasty. At first I thought it was because your initial weapon is old & rusty, but when you apply the upgrades, they still look horrible. Not so much in-game, but during the upgrading.

I think the weapon customisation looks too complex for what the game's about.
Played through the first three chapters this evening on Co-op (with 5by5) & apart from a few niggles, it was fun. The environment graphics are excellent with lots of Michael Bay destruction on view & the maps/layouts are much more varied & larger than the original. Boss encounters started off being tough but bizarrely got easier the further we progressed. The only real niggles so far have been the usual dodgy EA servers (we both got kicked twice in tonight's session) & lengthy cut-scenes that you have to repeatedly watch when you die as it doesn't let you skip them.

its really annoying that you get disconnected thanks to how crap EA servers are, 3 times day in co-op
The game is quite fun but the difficulty is all over the place, you can get stuck at choke point of RPG and sniper gits then the next level is very easy. The graphics are mixed, they can be good then some look awful at times

Not sure if it was the same issue on the demo or people just choosing to quit out but I played 20+ co-op games as I mentioned on this thread with a stack of different players and I didn't finish the demo level once without getting returned to the menu for connection problems.
Shame to see thats carried over to the full game in some form. :|
Yes connection problems are frustrating, it led to us completing levels quickly & not spending time exploring, rather than it disconnect us. I also agree with the difficulty spikes. The bulk of it (on Normal) is simple, but now & then you get hit with ridiculous sections with multiple RPG'ers & with the checkpointing not being that generous, it starts to get really frustrating, especially if there are any cut-scenes involved that you cant skip.
Despite this, i'm still enjoying it.
Single-player is waaay too short & yet started to get repetitive towards the end. Not much of a story either to be honest & it all kinda fizzles out. Was reasonable fun while it lasted, might give it a bash on the harder skill-level to see if it improves, but I doubt it.
I probably score it a solid 6 & i'm pretty certain it won't be finding a place on my top 10 of 2010.

Its strange they removed all the vehicles and had only 2 back to back sections (also the overkill) in the 1st game it helped to make it less repetitive.
The game is very much a rental only, would never play the game again. It was fun while it lasted (although the endings were poor)
Was going to say how improved the AI is from the 1st game but it can't handle the flame thrower/mini-gun/grenadiers. The 1st minigunner, the AI stands by the flaming car knocking its health down :cuckoo: or will openly firing at the mini gunner (no cover)

this game arrived at the weekend at part of my lovefilm rental. what an average game! i too was stuck in the endless lift at the start until i realised you had to go into the mod weapons screen to advance - why wasnt this picked up in testing?
everything about this game is average and i wouldnt even reccomend it if it drops down to a tenner.
anyway this is going back in the post tommorow and now holds the record of my shortest ever rental!
5/10

I pretty sure it tells you to custom the weapons as the 1st bit is long tutorial
Got this at the weekend and completed it with my coop partner. Just so average in every respect, the shooting was better than the first game but there was no excitement to the game whatsoever. It just felt like going through the motions with no real motivation to continue or finish it other than to get it out of the way and return it. Just so middle of the road, nothing terrible but yet nothing exciting about it either. Still, 6 quid for a rental so not all bad.
Funny thing is I remember having a lot more fun with the first game but I don't know if I would think that now, more than likely a 'at the time' thing.
I definitely missed the OTT nature of the first one, with both the cheesy dialogue & some of the scenarios (onboard a sinking aircraft carrier, a flooded city..etc) ... The Michael Bay destruction was cool in the sequel but like you say, despite it being slicker than the first, it was definitely missing something......
...although in your case, that would be Nazi bad-guys. :p

Shooting Nazis never gets boring, ever. I believe there is scientific evidence which shows this may be a lie
Rented this one from lovefilm and have completed the first 4 chapters, with Mass Effect 2 ready to be played I am sending this back. Just a completely boring experience, dull, dull dull.

Is anyone playing this in private co-op on Xbox? One of us has a moderate NAT, so that's probably the problem, but how is it supposed to work? Seems like you have to be in a Party, but perhaps I'm wrong.
If I set up a game and select a character, I get stuck at the character select screen, even if I then invite my friend to the party (the game option is greyed out).
Or if I set up the party first, then set up the game, he gets invited but is told he can't join the game.
So for anyone who's done it - how is it meant to work?

your problem is probably due to XB live being completely borked at the moment ?

OK, cool, will try tomorrow - but I did Google this and see a few others having similar issues. Would just be good to know how most people get it to work so that when I try fixing the network tomorrow night I know how it's meant to be done! :)

Just played both of these games back-to-back (see what I did there?) and have to say I thought this was a big improvement over the first game in every way.
They improved the AI a lot in in this and I actually managed to complete it on contractor difficulty. Loved the 'future visions' idea - think they could have built on that a bit more.
The Zoo level was great - there aren't many better chapter titles than 'Dead Hippos for cover' :D
7 out of 10 review is about right. Certainly not awful like the first game.
One thing that I think is a bit naughty is the DLC. Like the first game it is 2 extra chapters that seem to have just been chopped off the end of the game but this time it isn't free and costs 800pts. I guess that's EA for you :oh-hum:

The last boss was also way too easy (http://gospvg.blogspot.com/search/label/Army%20of%20Two%2040th%20Day)
Hope EA make a 3rd game though, it is one of the more enjoyable co-op games
