If you don't want to read about my boring troubles finding a DivX DVD Player just skip the following and answer my main question - can anyone recommend me a good DivX Player please? :)

Owned a couple of Yamada/Umax players (£30 range) over the years, they've always been a bit dodgy with smaller, or converted DivX avi's but a while back I bought a Yamada/Umax 7500 and it was great, worked brilliantly on all avi files I could chuck at it - no skipping, no slowing down, no audio sync probs, etc.

Unfortunately it's on it's last legs now so I went and had a gander at SVP to see if I could pick up another one, no longer available it seems. I noticed they do have the dodgy Umax/Kazuki (£30) models still and (woohoo!) Yamada/Umax DVD-7600X - a newer model of the one I've loved? Yes please! Ordered it straight away.

Oh dear. It came yesterday. It's absolutely rubbish. The menu's, on screen display, it's treatment of shorter and converted avi files are all identical to the dodgy Umax/Kazuki model and bear no resemblence whatsoever to the 7500 model that worked so well.....so essentially I've paid £20 extra for the dodgy Kazuki model I tried to avoid :(

Does it suck yer dick as well! :D

Don't like using the 360 for watching dvds, it's enough of an effort to change bloody game discs ;)

My Multi Region Phillips DivX DVD Player has been sat lifeless since i got the 360. Even the kids watch their Dora and Lazy Town DVD's on the 360.

The 360 will deal with HD DivX stuff, so worthy of consideration.

I've got a Philips 5960 which I picked up for just under £40 a couple of years ago. Upscales to 720 or 1080, can be made multi-region easily, and has a USB port on the front that you can play stuff through. You'll be hard pressed finding one of those, but any of the replacement models will essentially do the same at least as well, if not better.

Like this one at Amazon (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=8&url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0024FA8UQ/thedvdforums-21)

As an alternative what about a WDTV?

It will play all your DivX files straight from a HDD, and you can with modded firmware add a USB DVD drive.

Buy a Philips 5990 and use the modded firmware from here (http://vb6rocod.euracks.com/dvp5990_12.php)

The Philips dvds are fine, but you could try

Lg dvx492H (i think or is it 495), one really small and painless firmware flash later and it is multi-region, courtesy of the hack page at vcdhelp.com. (If not already out of the box)

Plays Divx
Upscales
Has USB port on front.

Best of all you can walk into Tesco and pick one up for the sale price of £40

Or the toshiba (think it is the SD390, or something like that) for a little more, does everything that the Lg does but doesn't have the USB.

After what you have said i can't see you fancying the supermarkets own cheapo makes, mind you i don't blame you after hearing about all sorts of quality issues with the Onns (Asda) and Technika (Tesco)
