Watched the first two series back to back on Blu-ray. This was actually my second attempt at watching the Tudors, I failed on the weekly instalment version as I kept losing track of who was who.
I'd honestly thought this was just too expensive a show for TV in these troubled times so I'm double pleased to see it back. It's just a shame Natalie Dormer has had the chop - those eyes!
BBC2 - Friday @ 9pm. Also in HD too
She is a stunning woman! I'm really looking forward to season 3 though, so entertaining!
A double episode this week as well. I think I am right in saying that this is the final season isn't it. If true that is a bit disappointing as it appears that they originally set out to more or less do a series on each marriage so the storyline must zip along in pace so they can fit it all in.
No, they'll be a fourth and final season of 10 episodes to air in 2010.

Heads up !
tonights episode has started almost 15 minutes late, due to the athletics. Make sure you extend your recordings! Record Gavin and Stacey if you have to!
Thanks for the heads up but I just happen to notice that it was due to start late thanks to the SKY EPG. Will watch it sometime over the weekend.

I've just done the same, and enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Season three should be interesting. Not sure how to feel about Joss Stone playing Anne of Cleves. Will have to see.

They're also showing 2 episodes at a time (21st & 28th are both 90min eps) so assuming they do this for all of them, it'll be a 4 episode run - I'd prefer it if they split it :(

Certainly enjoyed part 1(/2)
did miss the Lord Boleyn, he was my fave baddie. :(

The 4th September episode is back to just the one.

I hope Joss Stone carries on wearing a bag over her head after her 'acting debut', lol
How can you call that an acting debut, she was on screen for a minute and you couldn't even tell which one she was

Exactly, lol. The announcer before the show seemed pretty excited by it though.

OMG!!!
That's twice this series that my V+ box has recorded the episode - showing it as the correct length on the menu. When I press play, it immediately jumps to the end of the recording and says "Hope you enjoyed that, what do you want to do next"
Ended up watching the episode via iPlayer. Not the same when I could have been watching it in HD :(
As for the series - not the pinnacle that series two reached I think. But a sad (and messy) ending to Cromwell.
I assume that's the end of this series now?
It'd be nice if they would continue the series past Henry and onto the Mary/Elizabeth saga. A series five perhaps??

I think I read somewhere that this is the end although it is a pretty uneven end with two more wives to go although I can't see how they could make a series out of them.

Whilst I like the sound of that with Elizabeth never marrying I don't think there would be the same impact as this series has had although there is a lot of history that could be covered.

indeed - although the first two series were pretty much just two wives. Series four might well work with less emphasis on the wives and more on the upcoming (child) queens perhaps? A seeming lack of main enemy for series four appears to be the main problem.
Mind you, a quick look at Wikipedia suggests that the Duke of Suffolk might be the next target after his instigation in Cromwell's downfall...
Duke of Suffolk for the chop? that will deplete the tea-time totty a little.

Not the end yet, there is a series four to come. Hopefully people have been inspired to actually read the history of Henry the 8th? Bear in mind the series was not entirely factual with history.
From the Showtime site, http://www.sho.com/site/tudors/home.do
LOS ANGELES, CA – (April 13, 2009) – On the heels of a critically lauded third season premiere of SHOWTIME’s award-winning drama series THE TUDORS, the network has announced the pick-up of a fourth season of the epic-period saga starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers as King Henry VIII. The final season will consist of 10, one-hour episodes and center on his tumultuous relationships with his last two wives, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr, and his final descent into madness. Season four, which will return in spring 2010, will be written by series creator and executive producer Michael Hirst, with production slated to begin this June in Dublin, Ireland. Hirst will have single-handedly written all 38 of the series one-hour episodes by the time the story is complete.
The execution of Cromwell (a matter of historical record so surely not a spoiler) was one of the most brutal sequences on TV for a long time. His enemies getting the executioner so bladdered that when he swung the axe, he kept missing Cromwell's neck and slicing off a different body part. Although this was fitting revenge for Cromwell's ordering the hanging of the children of the Northern rebels. An interesting show but it seemed to underplay Cromwell's dominance at the Court.
Not the end yet, there is a series four to come. Hopefully people have been inspired to actually read the history of Henry the 8th? Bear in mind the series was not entirely factual with history.
Top news
I think those of us that have seen it are aware that the show isn't historically accurate. For example, wasn't the Duke of Suffolk actually the Duke of Norfolk in real life ?

Well this has finally come to an end and I'd like to say congrats on what has been one of the finest historical drama series ever produced. Thoroughly enjoyable, perfectly cast and produced to the very highest standards.
Shame it had to end given the juicy stuff that follows on with the Tudor Dynasty (Bloody Mary, Elizabeth I), but can't argue given those periods have been well covered by Hirsts two fine films.
Michael Hirst has an Agincourt movie in development that I for one am well looking forward to.
Watched the final episode tonight
Fantastic show, with some incredible performances throughout :notworthy
One of my favourites in the last few years
Truly excellent

A bit disappointing that a series called "The Tudors" ends midway through the story, but thinking about it Edward was a real bore, Mary was a religious nutter, and Elizabeth wasn't exactly the rampant sexpot that the show's formula really demands.

Hirst wrote the two Blanchett Elizabeth movies so its arguable that the period has already been covered.
