At the moment the spikes on my front speakers, sub and speaker stands for the rear speaker go through the carpet and into the floorboards.
Would it be best to leave it like this or to put 2p coin under each spike?

Leave it the way it is.
Discs under spikes are designed to protect decorative floors, such as laminates etc. On carpet there's no need.
If you put anything under the spikes, you will reduce their effectiveness, because as well as acoustically decoupling the cabinet from the floor, they also serve the purpose of holding the cabinet rigidly in position so it doesn't wobble about like a wobbly thing from the planet wobble.
I have my front speakers placed on slate tiles from Wickes as the speakers are quite heavy and the spikes sink straight into my soft wood floorboards.

Try one penny coins - work a treat. You can even part-drill the centres for true skeet versatility:D

Mine are on paving slabs and my Soundstlye AV rack which is supporting a ton weight has spikes under which I have place 2p pieces. Nice rigid platform.

I find that you can get away with the drilling if you put the spike on the tails side of the coin, honest
