my digital camera, a nikon coolpix 2200 is probably 3 years old but whenever i take it anywhere it seems to have dead batteries. At home i store atteries OUT of the camera.

and i use things that say high power - kodacs at present.

so does this mean the camera is borked. or do modern cameras drain batteries this badly?

I can easily get a 100 shots with Flash with my S70...My guess the battery is totally dead, is it AA or one that is designed for the camera ?

its just uses 2 AA batteries (or apparently a single CR3 battery which i don't have). pretty much every time i have gone on holiday i have put in fresh AAs, taken 4-5 shots on day 1/2 and then thats it, dead battery.

I thought everyone knew that normal batteries aren't up to much for digital cameras, I assume the coolpix uses normal AA size batteries? if so get some rechargeable NiMH ones.

ah cool, ta for that, i always assumed duracel camara batteries would be fine.

from here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=33&url=http://www.boots.com/en/Duracell-Ultra-Alkaline-M3-Tech-AA-x-4-Batteries_2613/)

but i'll try some rechargable nimh ones,

daft question (its that sort of night), if i have an existing recharger, that says its a Ni-CD/Ni-MH battery charger, that would be okay? (its probably 10 years old), or best off getting a new one of those?

I used the ones supplied with a camera years ago and like you said they don't last at all. I'm guess some are better than others but rechargeable is the way to go.

It may well work fine but you should be able to pick up a charger and 4 batteries quite cheap. Look for the mAh rating on the batteries the higher the better in my old Canon I used 2500mAh and they lasted well. I still use them in my Wii and 360 controllers. Something like this (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=8&url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001UGKQ5W/thedvdforums-21) would be ok, I've not checked anywhere else.

I recently bought one of these (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=8&url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000Y88FUU/thedvdforums-21) instore at Asda (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=27) for £3, they still had some about 10 days ago, the battereis included were only AAA but it will charge AA and you get a pack of 4 2500 AAs from Aldi for about £3.

My kid's got the same camera. We use rechargeables (2000 and 2500 mAh). Can't put a time on it but they certainly last longer than a few days (as long as she's not using the flash lots or making videos with it).

You could try USBCELL. Used them with a compact sony last year and they held up well. Easy to charge in a usb port if you have access.
