1)As i was saying what is the point of buying the special edition Die Hard 1 & 2 box set?
Surely people would want to buy all three of them together as one boxset;)
...btw does any one know when the trilogy box set is coming out.

2) Why do they have to re-release "Special Editions" of certain titles:brickwall. Cant they just release a DVD with all its xtras 1st time round:confused:

1 - The third Die Hard film is owned by a different studio, so they cannot have it as one boxset.

2 - More money.

In Europe only - that is why Fox can release it a full boxset in the US and not here

There is no trilogy box set for region 2 because fox do not own the distribution rights to die hard with a vengeance.

same here as with the U.K

DH1 and DH2 are Fox titles and DH3 is a Roadshow title.

So only 1 & 2 will SE.

There will be a box set with the DH1 and DH2 SE's and the Roadshow DH3 normal release.

In fact - I think Fox have the rights for the US only - so R4 will be in the same boat as R2

The R1 boxset looks pretty good value too. :)

Maybe the best value for quality ratio DVD release there has been yet IMO

I bought it quite happily as I don't like DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE anywhere near as much as the first two films. :D

Just out of curiosity, does the R1 boxset contain 3 Amarays? Or is it a cardboard fold-out travesty?

Cheers.

it comes as 3 slightly thicker than normal amarays which come in a box.Unless u dont have a multi-region player cant see why anyone would want the inferior r.2 effort.

If they can't release a three film box set because a different studio own the rights for the third film, why do I have a three disk box set VHS sitting upon my shelf?

Hendrik

...because the rights to release a particular movie on VHS tape may be owned by a different company from the one that owns the right to release that same movie on DVD... and it may be owned by different companies in different countries (e.g. in Australia, as mentioned in a previous post)... and so on...

In the world of 'Home Video' things are never as cut-and-dried as you might think!

. . . :o . . .

Who cares about the 3rd one it sucks anyway?
The first two were both punchy and classy.
The third was a mmmmaaaajjjjooorrr disappointment.

The R1 comes in a cardboard sleeve which contains 3 double-alpha (I think that's what they're called) type DVD cases which enclose the 3 SE versions of the films.

2 discs per film, very nice packaging.

All for £30 delivered from HMV Canada (well that's where I got mine from).

All things beeing equal I always go for R2, but when you have examples like this when the R1 is so much better than the R2, well - what do they expect?

1) It's not. Fox own the rights to 1 and 2. BV own the rights to 3, they don't share profits and so won't release a trilogy boxset in the UK

2) when the dvds were first released the dvd market was a lot smaller so cost of extras, remastering couldn't always be justified. The dvd market (players etc) is more than 4 times the size it was when the first die hard discs were released in the UK. Now the market is bigger more can be spent on dvds and so SEs get released.

They are not forcing you to buy the new versions, if you want the new version just sell the old one.

Go for the region 1 boxset, all the films are special editions with two disks.
