I've got the following Home Cinema components and I'm struggling to get them connected together in a way which makes them simple to use (or in the case of the video record a program).

Sony KV25FU2 TV
Sony DVP-S725D DVD Player
Sony SLV-E710EX Video Recorder
Denon AVC A1D A/V Amplifier
Denon Tu260 Mk11 tuner
Pace Sky Digibox

Originally I wanted to connect them all together via the A/V amp to make switch between them painless. However the amp support component video/S-Video and composite video.

Does anyone have any clue about the best way to make this set-up work seamlessly and how I should connect the devices together?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

I would:

For video sources:
DVD -> TV
VCR -> DIGIBOX -> TV

For audio sources:
TUNER -> AMP
DVD -> AMP
TV -> AMP (or DIGIBOX -> AMP if TV has no audio outputs)

This works well for me unless you want to record dvd's which I don't.

VCR -> DIGIBOX -> TV

you mean DIGIBOX -> VCR -> TV? don't you, other wise you couldn't record digibox stuff?

If your TV only has one RGB scart, and the DVD player has 2...then put the DVD player last.

are you sorted now or do you want me to email a simple sketch of how my componets are connected up, I have the same sort of setup as you.

how many scarts does your tv have and what does each accept? comp/rgb/s-video?
is your video s-video?

Iain.

no, VCR -> DIGIBOX -> TV works fine for me and I can record off sky. The digibox has scarts labelled for TV and VIDEO so why son't it work?

Actually, maybe that should be VCR <- DIGIBOX -> TV instead :p

ah got you, so they are not in a line...makes sense now.

pity amps don't have scarts, that would work so much better.

and why oh why did some one decide to make scarts that weren't fully wired...it would be so much better if you didn't have some RGB, some not...right mess.

For being late posting back.

The amp can do limited component, S-video and composite.

The TV has two scarts 1 is RGB capable the other S-Video both can do composite. It also has a coposite input on the front which I don't want to use permanently.

The DVD player has component and S-video. Also RGB via Scart and Scart passthrougth.

The Digibox has two scart, one TV one video, can do RGB or composite.

The video has two scarts but is a composite only beast.

The play station is compsite only via coax.

It's mainly working via a bodge. I would much rather have everything switched via the amp but of course it doesn't have Scart and thus no RGB but it does have component but the TV doesn't. The whole thing is a pain the the ^%$£.
