View Full Version : Planet of the Apes (2001) spoilers
After having watched this film at the pictures and now at home, I still cannot make sense of the ending. I know that basically Thade found a way to get to earth and overtake the humans with apes but how the hell did he manage to do this. The last I saw of him in the film was when he was trapped in the ship chamber.
Can someone please explain as I did not have a clue after listening to that weirdo Tim burton's commentary what on earth he was on about trying to explain the ending. All he was nattering on about was the sequel and giving Fox an ending to allow for the sequel.

He's entered another dimension, I think...

Someone posted a link to a site last time this was discussed that explained it all, albeit rather confusingly.Doesn't the Region 2 version come with the insert that explains it??
He tries to explain it in the audio commentry.

All he tries to explain in the commentary is making the ending open for a sequel by Fox studios!!! And some garbage about time which he goes on about repeating himself!!!
Can someone please post the link for a proper explanation.

...as does the Region 1 - I read it and it does seem to make some sense!
The region 2 only comes with a booklet of 20th century fox titles on dvd.
for those who are interested - and who do not have the R1 - I've just done a quick scan of the explanatory card...
It's a two-sided affair:

Thanks for that mjb1975.
The time line was also on the official website.
The timelines may explain the theory, however, I'm still confused.
When Leo dissappeared, the Oberon received a distress signal from the Oberons captain saying they were crashing. The picture showed the captain to be an older version of the one watching it. So how many years were there before Leo leaving and the Oberon crashing ?
And another thing. Thade could only have got to Earth in Leo's crashed ship. So are we meant to believe that he salvaged the ship from the lake (even tho apes are afraid of the water), repaired it, flew it, plotted a course to Earth and landed it ? All this from an ape who has no experience ,at all, of modern technology ! My god, I'm even confused when I try to programme my VCR ! How on earth (or wherever) did he do it ???

Who knows:
There may have been undamaged pods still attached to the crashed Oberon.
It's something that they could easily explain if they decide to make a sequel.
