I was pondering that myself this morning, saw it similarly priced at one or two other online retailers (non affiliated unfortunately).

Then work kicked in and I later remembered the car's in for a service tomorrow but now I'm tempted again :)

Edit no.. must service car.. car.. storage.. car.. storage..

I think these are still about the fastest kids on the block and seem to be loved by most.

I'd like to know what the pro's and con's are re which model of this drive to get?

Are there different cache amount versions of this drive, and I assume the warranty is a lot less with a OEM model?

Anyone know about this stuff?

3yr standard sammy warranty on these drives.
All the F1 drives have 32Mb Cache.

the other Versions, the F2 are the "Eco" versions @ 5400rpm

Thanks for that.

In the future (hopefully not that long)
I could see a 64GB SSD as a lightening fast C: Drive for Windows and apps.

And this HDD as D: for data, games and storage.

:)

(of course 128GB SSD would be nicer, but I could happily manage with 64GB due to major current price differences.)

You're better off with an F2 for sky.

Does anyone know how the volume of these compares to older Spinpoints? I'm looking for another quiet hard drive - I currently have a 500gb Spinpoint bought 2 years ago which is quiet enough for my purposes.

Will this be any louder?

Thanks,

Robin

2 years worth of tech is a fair whack compared to your old Drive.

I have 3 320Gb F1s and 2 1TBs in this machine and can quite happily leave it on overnight in the bedroom.

I know not technically relevant, but I've just bought two more 1tb WD Caviar Blacks, as they have a 5year warranty and two processors, which I reckon is worth the extra £10

You don't really need a big SSD drive since, for the vast majority of people, if you subtract music, and video from their total disk usage you are left with quite a small amount of data - certainly less than 64GB.

As both music and video are used in buffered mode there is not any desperate need for drives faster than even the slowest currently available.

(If you're video editing ignore the above. :))

Yep great little drive, bought one at a computer fair this time last year for £90 when all the shops still wanted £120 for it. Mine is almost full and battling to get space back.

The one thing that I did notice is that it does spin down after a while of not being used and can take a second or two to spin back up if accessed and can take 10 to 15 seconds to wake up if you use a 360 to stream media from it. other then that it is nice and fast. Only time I can hear the drive is when it is strarting up or if defender start doing a scan in the middle of the night.
