Read something tonight (:p) that made me think of Sam Sparro - Black & Gold. What a ******* tune. Amazing no matter how many times you hear it. Don't think he manged to follow it up with anything decent.

Best one-hit wonder ever! Possibly best party song ever too.

Deep Blue Something - Breakfast At Tiffany's. Great little song, picked up the album (from a bargain bin, luckily) a year or so later and it was absolutely, unlistenably awful. Like it could've been a different (inept) band, a wonder they ever got a gig, never mind an album deal.

A deserved one-hit wonder.

Joe Dolce - "Shaddap Your Face". I was eight at the time, and couldn't stand "Vienna", so it got my vote.

The Firm - "Star Trekkin'". All together now: 'There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow'.....

On a more serious note, "Concrete and Clay" by Unit 4+2 is an absolutely classic piece of 60s pop.

I am the one and only!!

Not quite sure why I know this but, technically, Chesney Hawkes did have another 'hit' - 'I'm A Man, Not A Boy' - which got to about #27.

I'd like to add Nomad's 'I Wanna Give You Devotion'.

The Firm - "Star Trekkin'". All together now: 'There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow'.....

The Firm also did the classic "Arthur Daley - Ees Alright" which my brother bought and is quite amusing. Especially the B side which has a "posh" version of the song with some bloke speaking the whole thing in a posh accent

Some guilt one hit wonders I liked:

Catch - Bingo
Fantastic pop song, no idea how it wasnt a bigger hit.

Jon Secada - Just another day

Everyone else thought it was naff but I kind of liked it.

B52 Project - Girls Like Us

Good dance tune back in the day, never head anything else by them. A lot like many other 90's dance toons!

Karel Fialka - Hey Matthew
Used to get teased by my brother with this one cos its my first name! "I-see-the-Ateam!!"

Lindy Layton - Silly Games

Love the 12" version of this. I know she did lots of collaborations but think this was her only succesful solo outing.

MC Tunes vs 808 State
Naff but I liked it ok :nuts:Only track MC Tunes had success with? On the 12" the lyrics were printed around the record sleeve meaning you had to rotate it quickly to pick em up.

Boom - Falling

Another failed pop band with one decent tune that failed to set the world alight.

Could name a load more but thats enough embarrasment for now:wave:

The Rattler by Goodbye Mr Mackenzie

A disgrace that this was their only single to scrape into the top 40.

To be honest I think that was down to Martin Metcalfe not wanting to go commercial.

The thing is 'The Rattler' is IMO not their best song, that could well be 'Now we are Married'.

Some very good albums, 'Good Deeds and Dirty Rags' and 'Hammer and Tongs' are both very good listening.

The 'backing' singer did ok for herself though.

Timbuk3 - The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades

Felt - Primitive Painters

Men Without Hats - Safety Dance

Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star

Steinski Vs Mass Media - We'll be right back...

Not sure if they count, but they're the only 'hits' they had I'm aware of:

Caberet Voltaire - Sensoria (thanks again to Max Headroom for that one!)

Latin Quarter - Toulouse

A one hit wonder is an act who only ever had one song which was huge and who didn't have much of a career beyond that. There are plenty of bands who didn't have many top ten hits, but who have had long careers or who sold many albums rather than singles and they aren't considered one hit wonders.

Sex is Sainsburys. I've hunted for these guys so many times. Those four acoustic MP3s are the closest I've come in 12 years to hearing them again.

Am fascinated by talk of a charting single though, can you offer any clues to where I could obtain a copy?

The Dreaming Liars, as were, I saw twice, once randomly supporting a (****) mate's band in Putney, and such was their entertainment value I turned off, with great effort, my new, that day released copy of Ocarina of TIme to catch them in Camden Lock that night, I'm guessing NOvember 1998.

Saw them only once more, on C4, singing On THe Street Pete after Lord Mandelson's first disgrace, and never again. Til now.

Please help, people. I need to hear more!

Hazel O'Connor - Eighth Day

Not really!

"D-Days" (1981) #10 UK
"Will You" (1981) #8 UK

I certainly remember Will You being very big and played a lot.
#8 is quite a few sales in those days.

But Tubthumping was the only one that charted though.

they're next two hit #10 and #21 respectively, but yes, nowhere near the success of TT...

One of my favourite 1 hit wonders is:

Dream Academy - Life in a Northern town (1985)

I know they had other singles, but nothing came even close.

It was also 'remixed' in to Sunchyme by Dario G.:|

Sex is Sainsburys. I've hunted for these guys so many times. Those four acoustic MP3s are the closest I've come in 12 years to hearing them again.

Yeah, Nov 1998 fits with the timescale I remember hearing it.

It definitely did get released as a single at the time, think it got to number 32 or thereabouts so, it was a minor HIT!

Good luck tracking down a physical copy.

And the ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead (from Dumb n Dumber)

Wasn't that an XTC cover, or did I make that up?

Jane Weidlin (sic)- -Rush Hour.

I know she had hits with the Gogos, but this is killer pop.

J.

I have that album and found it really good, so I guess it's all about tastes. Most of the songs were on a par with BaT (which I love).

Best one hit wonder WAS Walking on Sunshine but I think Katrina and the waves had another hit years later.

Don't know if this counts but Appleton – Fantasy, guess it doesn't count if you include All Saints.

Nah Fantasy was a good track but they had a lame follow up that also charted called "Dont Worry".

Another track I liked was Ben Liebrands remix of Eve of The War. I know he remixed/produced loads of stuff but this is the only one I can recall released under his name only.

Also add:

Dimples D - Sucker DJ
Toto Coelo - I Eat Cannibals
