it is just my TV but still

i get the feeling the picture is 'bigger' and lose more pic informatoin than PAL discs.

Yes, I get that - my telly is a 4:3 28" Mitsubishi and I know I am losing something. The Criterion colour bars are a good guide. Also, it seems to lose a little more when in 16:9 mode.

Before it went out of warranty I had the guy check it out and adjust it in - he said that a lot of TVs have a too pessimistic border setting. Ours did so, and he adjusted it in which made a big improvement (before that, the THX rectangle was missing its left side - now it is a good cm in!)
