View Full Version : pioneer dv646a opinions please
Just ordered one of these bad boys via Justin. Just wanted to know what forum members thought of it.
Can anyone shed any light on whether it can actually play svcd as vcd help wasn't much help (only 5 views, 1 mentioning he could play them, 1 mentioning he couldn't)
Cheers
VCD can be very fussy with Pioneer machines. My Pioneer 626D will play VCD's perfectly fine, but 1 in 5 tend not to work. Its usually because of an MPEG error on the video file. Often i end up re-encoding the entire mpeg file using Tmpeg and then it works.
However saying that VCD's that work on my Pioneer 626D don't work on my friends Pioneer 444 but some that don't work on my Pioneer 626D work on his 444. It just depends really.
As for SVCD's I heard that the Pioneer 646A can. My friend's Pioneer 444 plays all SVCD's!
Hope this helps.

I have one of these (from UGH. Hi. Justin. :) ).
It's a very good DVD player and an excellent CD player too.
The player is not very attractive IMHO but it works flawlessly.
Previously I had a Wharfedale 750S and then had a brief spell with a
Toshiba 110e (which was a bug ridden piece of dung although when it
worked, the component picture was very good). The Pioneer is a solid
performer and I recommend it. I havn't got a suitable amp to try DVDA
but hey, you've got to have something to upgrade to! :D
