My recent holiday and excessive DVD buying have hit my credit card hard. I'm looking for a UK credit card that has a 0% balance transfer rate for six months. Last year there were loads but I can't find any at the moment. They all seem to be at a lower rate of 5.9%.

Help

Sorry if this is posted twice but the server keeps saying it's busy.

try www.egg.com - they are currently doing 0% on transfers and new purchases until the end of August

Got one through the post from the Halifax 0% on transfers and purchases for 5 months. I'd go with egg though, i got one and they are good.

Is there anything to stop me using a card for 5 months during the 0% period and then transferring to a different card. Does it effect my credit rating.

That's my plan, hope it doesn't

I wouldn't have thought so tbh. There's nothing to say you can't do that anyway and surely you're just exercising some good financial management! The only thing I might be concerned about is that I've probably built up a fair few cards over the years by transferring the debt and I haven't actually closed the old ones, therefore, theoretically leaving me with about 10 or more credit cards on my credit rating! Assuming that there is some reference to their £0.00 balance, it's not so bad I suppose....(or more like, I hope!).

Have to agree with egg opinions. Just like others I transfer balances whilst putting the money in a cash isa. When it comes to a brickwall on 0% balance transfers/purchases I have the funds to settle the debt plus made a few quid on the interest:D

my Golden rule is always have the cash, if I have not got the cash I can't afford it.

Another point on uncancelled credit cards. I forgot to cancel a Goldfish card a couple of years ago, forgetting I'd got AA cover and a mag subscription on annual debit. The moral of the story is cancel yearly subs, CHECK mail from former card companies, cancel redundant cards ALWAYS for security. This will stop moments of anxiety I can tell you!
