Loose Diamonds

OK here's a slightly unusual one for you.

I'm looking for a diamond for an engagement ring... I've been doing a lot of research into wholesale diamond prices and the whole 4C's thing (cut, clarity, colour, carat).

Comparing the cost of an engagement ring in the UK to the cost of a loose diamond in the US often reveals huge disparities. :rolleyes:

There seem to be loads of US web sites selling loose diamonds - blue nile, icestore etc.etc but am worried about customs etc and whether this will work out more expensive.

Anyone out there have any experience buying diamonds off the net or anyone who can recommend where to go in the UK for a good deal? (e.h. Hatton Gardens etc.) ?

For information on diamonds and advice on suppliers in america try Diamond Talk (http://www.diamondtalk.com). Dirt Cheap Diamonds (http://www.dirtcheapdiamonds.com) seem one of the best for price and service from what I've read. Hope this helps.

EDIT: I've just been looking around and Cool Diamonds (http://www.cooldiamonds.com) looks very impressive on price, even compared with America if you take VAT and duty into account.
