View Full Version : Takeshi Kitano's Sonatine (release date)
Don't know if anybody has posted this, taken from the Bullets n Babes DVDs site.
Takeshi Kitano's masterpiece Sonatine has been confirmed by MIA/Tokyo Bullets as an April 22nd release. No specs as yet.
Could turn out to be a stinker for Kitano's classic film as MIA have released two of his other films and they been poor releases. :(
Ok, this is getting released in the morning, has anybody seen a online review of the DVD?
Regards.
I've just posted my review on DVDTimes (link in sig).
R2 Project (http://www.r2-dvd.org/) have had a review up for a while now.
In terms of picture quality this release is far better than their previous efforts (Boiling Point was okay, Violent Cop was poor) but still doesn't justify the £19.99 price tag.
dave.
Any DVD release of this film is welcome.
I have it on laserdisc with Quentin Tarantino giving an into and outro waffelling on about how much he and Takeshi are alike. Taking an existing genre and turning it on its side.
Quentin is of course DREAMING.......

People who can read french might prefer the Studio Canal version which comes as a double bill with Jugatsu . Both are anamorphic but have only french subtitles.
There's a review here (http://www.dvdrama.net/fiche.php3?1954) (in french). The picture is good apparently but the Arkamys 5.1 sound doesn't seem universally popular.
The price for the two movies seems to be about 31 euros.
