View Full Version : Wanna make your own game? Kodu out now 400ms points - Billy Bargain!
Well after checking out some demos of Kodu I'm really looking forward to trying it out, looks pretty much endless but I think my first project will be a simple 3d scroller (read: Mario Rip Off!)
Think making your own LBP levels mixed with near endless game customisaton
This will not be released on XBLA, it will only be in the community games section and will ship with many mini games to get people started
I'm hoping 800 points but it might cost more
Anyone else interested?

Very interested, sure it's out this week?
Was this the one they demoed ages ago. Hope it's not too limiting - says 20 characters, presumably you only make 3d platformers with it, so a 3D LBP?
Spent an absolute ridiculous amount of time on LBP so if this is half as good, should be interesting.

Community Games Section? Is that the subscription one you have to pay for to play the XNA games etc.?
How much is that?
No no, its just a seperate games section, under games marketplace on the dashboard.
Its full of games made by the community with the XNA software, it'll be released there for anyone to buy
Matt, according to major Nelson's twitter feed it is!
The problem with these types of games is that they become very "samey" very fast. This is due to limited things, graphics, models, etc to adjust. This is why you never see games made with game creators make a huge hit in the gaming world.
I have been doing a little mod coding for a game lately and hit exactly the same problem in versatility. How to make something very configurable whilst making it simple. The only answer is to limit because to get 100% configurable is for the other person to program it.
Dont get me wrong, I think its a good thing because it will give people a sandbox area to mess with. If I had an xbox (and more free time) I would snap this up to play about with :)
I get the impression it's not to make games to sell etc, it's to make variants using that world (like LBP?)
Missed it on Major Nelson's feed. He tweets so much **** you can't see the wood for the trees.
Looks interesting. Can you make your own objects/characters or are you stuck with the ones they provide? It would be great if they had a character editor like the one in Spore, but with the ability to make a simple game around the things you design.

I've got a feeling its going to be very limited as it seems to be aimed at kids but i'll give it a go for sure.
