View Full Version : If anyone owns a Sony Wega.....
I own a Sony Wega KV-28 FX 60 and was wondering what the three picture modes below are for:
Normal
Digital +
Advanced
I assume normal is 50hz and the other 2 are 100hz but would like to know exactly what the difference between the three picture modes are.
I would appreciate it if anyone can shed some light on my query.
From the manual : -
Normal: 100Hz
Digital+: 100Hz plus line flicker reduction
Advanced: Digital+ plus smoothing of motions

If you want to actually see the differences in action, try this:
On DVD menus with fine horizontal lines, try switching between Normal and Digital+. Digital+ should stabilize the flickering that you get from an interlaced signal.
To test out the Advanced option, play a disc that has a scene with a moving background or panning shot. Switch between Normal/Digital+ and Advanced. You should notice that the pan/scroll becomes super-smooth! The processing falls flat on its face when you have scrolling text on a moving background though. It also causes a slight "halo" effect around static objects in the foreground - you really need to boost the contrast to see it though.
So which mode do most of you use??
I am personally using advanced which seems to give a clearer image but I can't really notice any difference betwwen this mode and digital +. They are both 100hz, but I cant tell any difference between the two.
I have the KV32FX60 and use the Digital + mode.
I tried the advanced for a while. I noticed on long pans look unbelievably smooth, but then I noticed slight blurring around the edges of fast moving objects and that put me off.
On Digital + you don't get the super pans but you don't get the blurring effect and you do get a noticable improvement over Normal.

When you watch a widescreen dvd in the 2:35:1 aspect ratio do you get the black bars which appear at the top and bottom in equal proportion or do you get a larger black bar at the top of the screen and a smaller one at the bottom.
I was just watching the fast and the furious on my wega 28' today and noticed the top black bar being larger than the bottom one. Is this normal for movies in this aspect ratio or should the bars be of equal size?
I've never noticed a difference in the size of the bars, but then I've not been really looking for a difference. If there is a significant difference you might want to look at the KV Tweak link above and see if you can fix it in service mode. Be careful if you decide to do that and heed the warnings on the site!
