My taste in music might have been quite different to his, but he was an incredibly funny writer who always went for the jugular in style.
RIP
I loved his articles even when i hated them . A sad loss
Thats sad....I used to really enjoy his articles, back in the NME 'glory days'....

Very sad. Only 49 too.
He was there during my formative music loving years and when NME was still great.

Christ - I read his stuff avidly in the late 70s/early 80s
Just a bit older than me too. Yesterday I went to the funeral of friend of mine my age who died of a heart attack a week or so ago. It really makes you consider your own mortality.
RIP Steven Wells (and Dave)

Quality decline in NME once he left was quite evident.
One of the few music journalists I would trust their opinion on.

Blimey :( Another one here who used to love reading his articles (even if I didn't always agree with what he was saying)
