In the old days I had a proper 4 track that used tape!

My daughter is getting quite prolific in her songwriting and I woudl love to to experiments with layering tracks etc.

We have keyboards. mics guitars etc. I think we will need onboard drums and some digital reverb etc

Any recommendations with a small initial outlay that will do teh job?

Thanks you!

How about just getting a USB soundcard type thing then using your computer? You can get decent free recording software, ie Audacity.

I must admit I am not quite sure what is best but I do like the idea of a stand alone machine that she can use in her bedroom with her keyboard plugged in. I just have no idea what is best and best value.

Anyone else use these things and could recommend something?

Like a lot of modern electronics, anything you buy will be pretty good.

Have a nose here:

The 4-track Boss Micro BR has built in rhythms.

The 8-track Boss BR-600 has a drum machine.

I got my guitarist son a 4 track Yamaha tape machine for Christmas. Cost about £50 from the bay. I wanted him away from the PC and understanding the fundamentals without getting bogged down in technology. Really happy with the purchase. Can't say that he's used it a lot though!
