I've been with Assurant Solutions for my PPI since 17/05/08 and they take the money from a direct debit I set up, the name on my bank statement shows "Assurant". They usually take payment around the 22nd.
However logged on tonight and see that a direct debit for "Admincle Ltd" has been setup, googling shows this is related to Assurant, and they have taken just under double - 7p short of double of what my policy schedule states.
The only thing in the small print about premiums i can find is: "Your premium is determined at the outset and will not automatically increase as you get older". And that the definition of premium is "the amout you must pay every month for cover under this policy, as documented on your policy schedule"
Looking on their website (http://protectiononline.co.uk/) a new policy with my cover is 50% more than what i'm paying, but certainly not 100% more.
They'll be getting a phone call from me in the morning, but anyone else had the same? Or have any advice?

The direct debit guarantee says companies should provide a certain amount of notice when changing the amount of a direct debit i think. If they don't then your bank should refund you the money whilst you take it up with the company (although this might invalidate your insurance). Worth reminding the company when you talk to them though that they are supposed to provide adequate notice of changes in amounts.

Thanks, don't want to invalidate my insurance cover though. Spoke to someone and they've emailed me a letter they say was sent out, dated 28th April 2009. I guess they've no reason to lie about sending it but I never got it.
As you know, we at British Insurance pride ourselves on delivering the best products and service at an affordable cost. To ensure this, we are constantly reviewing our providers to ensure that the policies we offer give excellent cover whilst still demonstrating good value for money. During this review we were informed that the current provider of your insurance policy felt it necessary to implement a very large price rise in June due to the continuing economic downturn.
Given this situation we felt that we should seek an alternative insurer with a view to keeping any price increase to a minimum and ensuring that our products still represented excellent value in the marketplace.
Change of Insurer
We are pleased to inform you that we have joined forces with a premier insurer in the form of Alpha Insurance A/S, to offer you continued cover with no changes to your existing terms and conditions. These changes are being taken to ensure you continue to receive excellent customer service and cover at a time when the economic outlook is less certain. Should you need to contact Alpha Insurance A/S for any reason you can do so by writing to the Customer Liaison Manager at Alpha Insurance A/S, 68 King William Street, London EC4N 7DZ.
Changes to Policy Wording and Cover Provided
No terms, conditions or wording of your policy has been changed. Please review your policy to ensure that cover provided meets your needs and requirements, as we do not provide any recommendations or advice as to its suitability. If however you do not want your policy, or your personal details to be transferred to Alpha Insurance A/S, then please email admin@adminicle.co.uk or phone 01285 886627 within 30 days of the date of this letter.
Change of Administrator
Adminicle Limited is the appointed agent of Alpha Insurance A/S for the purposes of collecting premiums, refunding premiums and managing and paying claims under this policy and will take over the administration of your policy at the same time as the change of underwriter. Please note that if, for any reason, your premiums are not up to date, then arrears will be collected as part of the transfer process. Adminicle Limited is registered in England Number 04176842.
In the event of a new claim, where the event happens on or after 1st June 2009, you will need to contact Adminicle Limited at Callidus House, Cirencester Business Park, Love Lane, Cirencester, Gloucestershire GL7 1XD, telephone 01285 886627.
However, if you are already in claim, or the event happens before 1st June 2009, your claim will remain with Assurant General Insurance Limited and you should direct any correspondence to them using the contact details contained in your existing Terms & Conditions or those which have already been provided to you.
Premiums and Direct Debit Collection
Unfortunately, given the current market, it has not been possible to totally avoid an increase in your monthly premium which will increase to £61.19 from June 2009 onwards, but we feel this is a small price to pay for a policy which offers all the quality you expect from us and will continue to provide a valuable safety net in this time of economic uncertainty.
As your premium is currently paid in monthly installments by direct debit, payments will continue to be collected automatically. You do not need to take any action. Please note that the Originator Identification Number will been changed to 837978 in the name of Adminicle Ltd and this will be the name appearing on your bank statement. The standard direct debit guarantee will continue to apply; a copy of which can be made available upon request.
Finally we hope you are happy with the service you have received from British Insurance, and look forward to providing protection for you and your family in the years to come, but if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us on 01285 886627.
On the phone they said that British Insurance website quote is using a different underwriter and I can phone them up and switch my cover if I want.... however it seems that the terms on that online quote are different to my current cover so I couldn't get the same.
Think i'll be moving to iProtect shortly, much cheaper, just need to have 6months existing cover at my current cover rate to skip the exclusion period. :(
