I now use a Samsung NC10 netbook as my main portable machine - even though i have a desktop PC 9/10 time i use a machine at home i will use the netbook as it does most of what i want.

One thing i don't do on it currently is edit 640x480x30fps videos taken off my Nokia N95 8Gb. I want to, but so far most software i have tried refuses to run as the display resolution is only 1024x600 and i get an error saying that you must have XGA 1024x768 to run (eg. Corel VideoStudio).

Windows Movie maker i have got running but had trouble loading some of the files from the phone, and even when loading the cutting/splicing ability is a bit rough around the edges - as far as i can see no easy frame/frame movement just click play and pause, no specific time jumping etc.

I only want to trim some footage, add titles and then upload it to YouTube. I'm filming my training so have sets of bench press and want to trim the footage, then put the weight and reps over the top and keep a copy of the finished footage, plus upload a copy to youtube.

Any recommendations - and do you know if it runs on a low res display?

There are little apps that allow you to run at a higher resolution and then you can run any application you like (CPU Power permitting of course!). Take a look at some of the netbook forums I'm sure you'll find one suitable for your Sammy.....

Apps that change the display to 1024x768 but then auto pan around?

I'm hoping for a command line switch or something to just allow the app to run. Maybe auto hide the toolbars etc. Even office gives me the option to auto hide the toolbar ribbon which i find works very well in improving screen estate - but then word will run anyway even if you don't hide the toolbars.

There is a screendriver exe that was developed for the Asus EEE that will force the screen into a full screen 1024x768 screen, but is is a little bit squished. I have it on my NC10, but this is my work pc, so I can't remember what it is called. I can look it up if you'd like?

No, this one squashes the display as said above. Take a look here (http://www.liliputing.com/2008/10/a1ctl-controls-acer-aspire-one-cpu-fan-and-screen-resolution.html)- This is the one I use, but as I said it's for the Asus One - might work though.

AsTray was the one I was thinking of. It will scrunch a 1024x768 display on to the NC10's 1024x600 display. http://wiki.eeeuser.com/astrayplus

i use CS4 and other apps on my nc10 that need a big resolution, all you do is go to graphics options and untick "hide resolutions not supported" and then set it to whatever resolution you need and then the screen willl move around the full resolution as you move the mouse (difficult to describe!). works great and is reasonably quick, i can have photoshop, adobe camera raw and bridge all open at the same time :)
(helps if you've cleaned up your nc10 first to not have a load of background processes automatically running all the time)

Good idea. Never thought of trying that. Hopefully it's the same option in Windows 7. Will try it shortly - currently got my netbook plugged into a Belkin KVM and outputting to a 1280x1024 19" TFT so resolution is not a problem.

Am finding that power is a bit limited on the netbook for things like video editing so will be doing it on my P4 desktop, but would be useful not to be stuck if on the move.

Cheers
