Looking to buy a couple of volumes of Gundam. But I am a little unsure what series to go for.

I downloaded an episode to get an idea if I would like to buy it or not, this was a 1979 episode (unfortunatly the download played back upside down for some reason.)

Anyways, I was thinking of the 1999 series Mobile Suit: Gundam Operation #1 etc. Any good? Oh, and how many episodes and volumes in this series?

What would you recommend?

I've never seen it but it has quite a following...i'd recommend you read some reviews over at www.animeondvd.com and go from there.

The DVD you mention is the Gundam Wing series, there are 10 DVD volumes and 49 episodes in total. (aswell as the movie).

In the 'other' Gundam timeline i'd reccomend Gundam 08th MS team, its a ,errm i think 12 ish, episode series.

08th MS is 12 episodes over 4 discs. I've got both that and wing and i'd say that i prefer 08th, though both are good.
I've also got the first disc of Gundam 0083 (stardust memory), and i'd recommend that as well.

I'll second that 08th Team recomendation. It's, as said, 12 episodes in one mini-saga. Plus there's also a follow-up movie that will be out on DVD shortly giving you a complete five disc collection.:D

the newest one is Gundam SEED, its supposed to be the best one yet

War in the Pocket is the best Gundam.

08th probably best for newbie

Original Gundam is available in the US but dub-only.. but the three compilation movies are available subbed and are excellent (I have the ntsc tapes...) and cut out a lot of the crap. Warning - the animation is very old...

Gundam WIng is good, but a bit long and histrionic...
