Yeah four or five weeks is nothing when you've been waiting since the seventies for a decent Spiderman film.
Still it's pants,
... however this means it won't clash with EP2.
True enough, all thoguh from what we've seen of both films Spidey looks to be far superior to Ep2...:(
I was quietly hoping that Spidey would give Lucar$e a good kicking at the BO.

looks a pretty goof film as i saw a trailer in the cinema. One question though....why, at the very start of the trailer do they play matrix music? listen out for it
perhaps WB have taken that music as a sort of theme tune because of the success of the matrix...i dunno

Most studios use other film's music for trailers, since the trailers are compiled quite early on and much of the score has yet to be completed for the film. Braveheart uses The Mission's score, Cast-Away uses Bravehearts.
Damn! I knew this would happen. The reason I'm ********* off about is that we'll hear all about it (from the US) before I get to see it.

Sorry to rain on anyone's parade, but i am just getting the faintest whiff of another 'Godzilla' here. And that had some pretty decent trailers too. I mean, even Sam Raimi's admitting he may have messed up with the Green Goblin (see last month's 'Empire' - that'll be the one with Star Wars on the front). This new timetabling means the film will avoid Episode 2 but run slap bang into the middle of the World Cup - odd, but with most of the matches being morning kick-offs in the UK there will still be plenty of time to visit the cinema. Also - there is NO WAY the movie will ever top Star Wars at the box office regardless of how they turn out as movies. Ainagonnahappen. Next case.

The goblin change was made for toys pure and simple if you have seen any of the movie figures on the internet news sites you can see that the goblin change converts very well into an action figure.
So far the movie looks pretty impressive, they seem to be going with decent actors rather than your average celebrity in a superhero movie formula ( see Batman and Robin for an example )
the release date being moved back is terrible :( I cant beleive I have to wait even longer for this movie.
I do not think it will be another godzilla from what I have seen so far it will rival Superman as the best comic book adaptation ever, if you have seen Darkman you would know that Sam Raimi has the right sensibilities to translate Spider-man to the big screen.
Allegedly the director has been under a lot of pressure from the studio and he literally had to beg for the job, I suspect that a lot of the changes where forced upon him, at any rate we shall find out soon enough.
I think it looks very promising and what with many more great sounding Marvel comics adaptations on the way it is a great time to be a fanboy
the less said about D.C's upcoming movies the better

If they are going to push the date they have at least 3 major releases in that month. Both Resident Evil and Panic Room are also due for release in June.

I don't think either of those two filsm will rival SPidey in terms of B.O to be honest.
As for Raimi admitting he might have made a mistake, I read that interview as well and I don't remember that, I might have missed it I suppose, but I thought he said that he made the suit that way as it was a logical progression for him, rather than latex mask..

Both Panic Room and Resident Evil are released by Sony as well so they could push one of those ones back as well....

Does anyone know if the U.S. release date is staying put? If they are moving it out of the way of Attack Of The Clones over here then surely they'd do the same in the States? I hope not cos I'm going to New York in May and I'd really like to see the Spidey flick in the city it was filmed!
Yes the US release date is still the same.

There's more room in the States for several blockbusters to be on at once. Over here, screens are more limited. Spiderman's distributors won't want it losing screens to Star Wars two weeks into its run.
I think it looks pretty damned good. Raimi is on a good run at present after "A Simple Plan" and "The Gift", the casting is strong and the effects look to be splendid. I'm very optimistic, especially after the wonderful trailer.

Always have faith in Raimi!!!
I seem to remember a few other big directors being at the helm of this, or trying to get it off the ground, before Raimi finally got the job...
Anyone remember who they were?

James Cameron was trying to get it made since the early 90s but finally gave up on it as the legal wrangles continued (three different film companies all claimed they had the rights to it).
When Sony eventually got hold of it there was a shortlist of directors being looked at, who were, if I remember correctly, Sam Raimi, David Fincher, Chris Columbus, and Barry Sonnenfeld, with Raimi getting the gig.
I thought the trailer that arrived in cinemas this week was terrible, especially Spidey himself in both his digital and Tobey MacGuire incarnations. It's the first footage I've seen from it. And I don't expect great things from the director of The Gift.
I saw the script at the point Cameron decided to bail and it wasn't great (the main reason, I think, for Cameron's cold feet). But I reckon it was changed heavily - the Sandman was the original bad guy, now changed to the Green Goblin.
I've waited so very long for a Spiderman film that I don't mind waiting another few weeks.

You gotta be kidding me! > As far as I'm concerned the Spidey trailer is one of (if not THE...) best trailer(s) I've EVER seen! You can see the cgi - granted, but from the trailer footage, its a damn fine job as far as I'm concerned...

I'd have to agree, the trailer was as good as any I've seen for years - there were exmaples of obvious cgi, but there were also some good shot i.e. the swinging into the windows segment that looked as real as you'd expect.
I suspect a lot of the cgi will be cleaned up and have the "shiny" effect dulled down which will help.
The script that Cameron was looking at was frankly ludicrous - it had none of the charm or spirit of what Spidey is about.
I very much doubt that Raimi script even remotely resembles it, except in the vaguest sense

Er, Mike, did you ever see <i>For Love of the Game</i>? I wasn't too keen on <i>The Gift</i> either, but I'm with you on <i>A Simple Plan</i>.
As for <i>Spider-Man</i>, its US release is 1 May. <i>The Panic Room</i> has had its British release brought forward to <i>Spider-Man</i>'s old slot of 3 May. I don't have a date for <i>Resident Evil</i> as yet.

I'm not worried about how the CGI looks in the trailer, there are some dodgy bits admittedly, but usually it's because they haven't finished touching it up by the time the trailer is put together, so it's generally sorted for the release of the feature.
I had forgotten "For The Love Of The Game" but come to think of it, I quite enjoyed that one too. I thought "The Gift" was a superb piece of filmmaking, one of my favourite films of last year, although Cate Blanchett's presence helped a great deal.

I really like The Gift too but I have to admit I had terrrible trouble in the first 15 minutes or so adjusting to the accents to the point where I could actually understand what the hell they were saying! To make matters worse, my wife kept chirping in with "what was that?", "what'd he just say?" etc. :D
